Today was the second weekend in the Branchbrook park series of races. If you want to see it (still don't know why...how well can anyone write on two hours of sleep???) go ahead and click here (http://www.westwoodvelo.com/showthread.php?t=1247). You will find the report, some pictures of the WKO file, a picture of the breakaway last week, and the weak WKO file from the race. Lots of "mini-attacks" and a whole lot colder. Still, a fun time was had. Sorry to blather on. I don't have the storng ability to be quite as succinct as Botto.

This would explain why I got 4th in the sprint on the Park Ridge ride today, too many racing weenies in Branchbrook. At least my confidence got a tiny boost, no matter how unwarranted, for a few pathetic hours. But now my euphoria has been racheted back to reality by the realization that most of the fast guys were racing. But of course, you idiot. God what a cruel sport.
If you need me tomorrow I'll be in Central Park, in the dark, possibly on the rain soaked course, getting my head handed to me by faster cyclists (which would encompass at least 60-70% of the vets peloton). That's if I don't crash on that dicey right hand bend descent up in Harlem.
I seriously need my friggin head examined for doing this sport. If nothing else, I am pushing the human frontiers of pointless exertion and risk taking. At least it's all over (one way or another) before 9AM.
I prepared for my 2nd race in 9 years tomorrow by riding 30 miles down to NJ, hammering hard for an hour and contesting the uphill sprint on the local weeniefest, then riding 30 miles back, including the hardest climb (Gate Hill Road) in the immediate area. So the 76 mile lactic acid injection therapy has been administered. I think Joe Friel would smack me upside the head for that, eh Dr.?

A few more of those, and you're going to be a CAT2 whether you like it or not
Good job.

Having taken 2nd place to the good Doctor (who is a gentleman and a scholar) today, I can say that the man is a threat even on an off day (I wasn't around to see last week's performance). In my defense I can only offer that I had a grand total of zero hours of sleep last night as opposed to his two, and our other rider had been in a racelong break in the Masters race immediately beforehand. A fun race, and a hell of an enjoyable breakaway to ride in. Still can't get the taste of road salt out of my mouth though...

Good job Doc. That's what we need. Another fast Westwood guy. Because there aren't enough now. I can only thank God you don't live around here so I don't have to chase YOUR fast ass on the Nyack ride.
Keep racing, keep winning, and keep coming here to tell us about it. You get the Weenie of the Week award (Super Weenie Division).

In your defense that is a H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks of a performance today on zero sleep. Nice Job. The two of you guys were strong and I was worried the whole time (and that was knowing that he had already raced earlier). Anytime you want to work in a break, I will try to contribute a hand! :) Just no one-two on me!
So doesn't three wins give you enough points to upgrade to Cat2? If so, you're only a week away...

Right. And that's why most of us are peloton dogs. Pack fodder. In the cheap seats. Shellable. Wheelsuckers.
But we try : ). Hey you fast guys need somebody to show up for you to slaughter on weekends.

What's really impressive about those numbers is his avg hr at 303W was 172bpm...

I think 303 watts for 35 minutes is more impressive than an arbitrary HR, but that's just me.

Well, I have to say that Penguin has it partially right. Lactate Threshold for me is at 181 (though I typically TT above that). Having said that, I was not happy with these numbers. Here are my numbers in the break last week.

We sure do look nice and relaxed in that first shot, don't we? ;-)
Arrgh! Grant's Tomb Crit is this weekend, so I'll have to skip Branchbrook. But I'll make it out there for the next one.
