Seeing that it's been a while since I did my first "What Do You Ride" thread back in 2002 (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=5444)and since then many folks have either come on board or gotten new rides, I thought it would be nice to "capture" them all in an updated gallery.

You people have some nice tandems! (and obviously alot more money than me :D )

Here's my lowly Schwinn, I just bought it last night for $50 and spent the evening finding ways to fit a family of five on it and took a practice ride with my wife. I think we have it figured out, I'll add pictures of the fully loaded beast tomorrow.

Something a little different, my almost-vintage 1980 Kuwahara with a few modifications. That's a 16-spoke Shamal on the front, and a 36-spoke rear I built on an 8-speed Campag hub. Next step is to install a carbon fork and get rid of those stupid front v-brakes, replacing them with dual-pivot sidepulls like on the rear.

Here's a picture our triplet. I'll take a better one next to a wall or something soon. Its a built-up chuck's bike triplet frame. Changes from last year are the handlebar tape (pink in middle, skulls on back), click-stand, road morph frame pump, and frog pedals for the middle stoker. She could finally climb up by herself 5 years old, but couldn't engage the locking mechanism on SPD's or eggbeater's. In the frogs, she can climb up and clip in (and out) all by herself. One other change is that we now ride out of phase (discussed on a different thread).

I've posted her many times before, but he she is ready for the '07 season - if Spring would ever come:

http://www.weberwoodworking.com/bikes/TrekT2000.jpg

No major changes. I did get a little longer stem, slightly different saddle, and after a full season I retired the original Bontrager Hard Case tires. The Hard Cases were bullet proof, but the new Conti GP4000's feel great and they even come in red.

We are also hoping for a third rider a little more often this year - we will see :) :

We also kept out first tandem, and set it up with a kid-back kit. Our son is still a little small for his Piccolo, but likes to "tag-a-long" just the same.

It is time I quit lurking hereabouts. I've enjoyed, and learned much here these past two seasons. Thank you.

Here is our 2003 (?) Meridian tandem. I purchased the frame as a close-out in the winter of 04-05, and had great fun building it. Over the course of two seasons use, it has gradually become our preferred bike. We have had so much fun with it that we ordered a new road tandem frame..due to arrive in the next couple weeks. I can hardly wait.

Here is a photo of our tandem. It was custom made for us..... by me. A double diamond with three different sizes of ovalized tubing. The disc brakes are a very early version, but do work well. My wife named her "Blueberry Nohill".

Our '06 Co-Motion Periscope 700CP. And just for fun, my 5'2" wife can captain the bike with either of our kids on the back. When that happens, I get stuck on the lead filled Burley and do my best to keep up.

Our tandem is around the corner, so this is not our bike. Saw this at Beals Point at Folsom Lake near Sacramento yesterday on a long ride. First Kuwahara we've seen -- pretty bike. Note the bike is OOP.

You might want to adjust your cranks....

According to this the cranks are one piece and the bike has an
independent pedaling system so the crank position will tend to
be random and depend on the riders.

Never mind. You learn something new everyday.

No. I don't know of any around here. Many (~ 50) years ago, in the UK, I used to do 25s, but my best time was only 1hr 6min on a solo bike. I had severe asthma at that time, so that must have been a good day:)

Got it. Interesting TT bike...The wheelbase must be substantial to get the stoker on aerobars behind the captain. TT bikes and aerobars are not the most stable platform and having both stoker and captain in the aero position would be interesting handling on a technical course.

How do you like the steerer extender? Any drawbacks?

Here are a couple of pics of my old Schwinn Stingray Mini-Twinn. Unfortunatly I don't own this one anymore, but I sure do miss it. It had the bendix 2 speed "automatic" hub. My current tandem is a bit more modern. It's a cheap aluminum frame MTB tandem that I've been slowly upgrading and changing as time goes on. I need to get some pics of that soon and then I'll post them.

How do you like the steerer extender? Any drawbacks? I didn't know what a steering extender was, but I gather they're as described here, http://tinyurl.com/34z9rn -- the tandem doesn't have one (I think the Bento Box straps caused the misperception) -- I didn't realize there were such things, and could use one on my single -- but your question makes me wonder why you asked: are steering extenders reputed to have drawbacks??? (It's slightly annoying to look for these online, because they're also called stem raisers, risers, or extenders....)

The distance between the frame and the stem seems like more than two inches. Is the steerer rated for such a long stack of spacers? The main reason I asked is because we own a small framed triple in which I use the largest/steepest stem. We have a fork with an uncut steerer that we could use but I remember reading somewhere that too long a stack of spacers is not a good idea. We also have some spare steems. So we have three choices:
Leave the triple the way it is.
Change the fork and the stem and add a couple of one inch spacers.
Install a stem raiser and change the stem.

Stack o'spacers not really a big issue nor is a stem extender.
Fitted a tandem (Co-Mo Persicope) for a couple that wanted to interchange pilot/stoker positions on occasion.
Left steerer tube on fork uncut and used a stack of spacers (use either above or below stem) + adjustable pilot stem to accomodate their requests. He is 6'2" she is 5'3". Works fine.
Have also had a couple folks who wanted the Delta steerter tube extender. Works fine.
Design our own tandem with a longer head tube . . . no spacers/extender needed. Works fine too.

Good to hear, thanks -- just switched another fat spacer so the tandem bar's even higher, and ordered a Delta extender for my single -- who'd'a thunk reading a thread about pretty tandems, I'd learn how to solve my handlebar-height issue?
