Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

ernesto's 3rd law of commotion: never never lean into a turn before the first of April.

That would tend to make sense! You didn't hurt yourself or the bike? (in that order of importance!)

aggravating an aggravating ski injury (left knee-see snow divit) but bike parts seem to hold up well against snow and ice

I did it today with successful results; the laws of physics must be on my side. :p

custom studded tires would prevent that

Hehe...last time it snowed here I got all excited to take my Kona on the road and see what kind of injuries I could incur. I didn't try too hard, but my 2.3's actually never lost traction except on the hard accelerations. I was turning and braking pretty good, but they were biting in.

The previous time I tried was freezing rain. That time I realized I might die if I kept it up after 3-4 seconds.

actually. . .nah

I have a set of studs and they are good for ice but one thing you learn about riding on snow and ice is that cornering is the beast. I eat it about once a year winter cycling and its always in turning situation. Here is what went wrong:

1. maybe 10 psi too much in both tires
2. feeling my oats and pretending it was pavement and it was the bell lap

Knee is fine but now my ass hurts like hell right on the tail bone. I hurts too much to do situps so I went grocery shopping and bought sushi and a bottle of this:

I'm generally a red wine guy but belgian ale and cycling seem like a natural match and I'm getting up at 4 AM to watch the Paris-Nice prologue

bon apetite
