CyLowe97,

Stop with all this talk about hills or you'll never see you bike again. I took the liberty of including a picture of it with the day's newpaper. This way you know it's still around, but as you can see I've worked it over a bit. Keep trying to organize hilly rides and the bike is gonna get it....

Ah Elgin land of Freeway Overpass mountains and home to the bike shop where ultramarathon ledgend Lon Haldeman worked. Lon bike commuted from and to Harvard each day. How flat do the rides need to be to gain mercy for the bike? The old Mile Square Century gained 400 feet in 100 miles. If you off the frame I'll start pronouncing the S in Illinois.

Oh for the sake of Charles Lindbergh, Jr, put the bike back together, man. The weather is perfect outside and I'm getting ransom notes on the internets.

Will it be ready by 1 pm today for an afternoon river trail ride?

Annual tear down and re-build. Good thing too. Found that the headset was shot (along with the rear hub but we won't talk about that).

Picture from later that same night - cables, chain, and HB tape and you're rolling...apart from the rear wheel...;). I would have had it done yesterday , but I was busy baby sitting...er....parenting:

Psimet, keep the bike. What did CyLowe do to it to wear out the headset in a couple(?) of years?

I would demand a higher ransom, perhaps semi-annual or even quarterly maintenance, with a malt-beverage-of-your-choice "incentive" of course (go for the 12 pack). There is no need for the wanton abuse of a fine bicycle;) :)

Maintenance ignorance. What? You're not supposed just tighten down the top cap screw?

Lesson learned.... :o

As CyLowe mentioned he was a little aggressive on the top cap bolt. That combined with the fact that the stock headset wasn't actually a sealed cartridge system + rain riding = :(

As for the malt beverage...he's already good like that. ;)

Psimet,

expect a large package from Amsterdam any day now. I'll throw in a pair of Clogs, and a wheel of Gouda as a tip.

I try to steer clear of large packages. Actually just packages of any size. Anyways...if the neighbors see I got something from Amsterdam they might start thinking that I'm holding....that said - ship 'er over. Lord knows I won't split a seat-tube (sorry about bringing that up :() - but how about some Heffeweisen (I apologize if spelled it incorrectly).

Just call me doctor nipple. I'll be tweeking his tonight.

FYI - I finally rode the first set of wheels I have ever built. I finally decided that my aversion to wheel building was kind of silly. As botto would point out it's not like it's some kind of art. So I dove headfirst into wheel building. The results, so far, are fantastic. I will definitely be building more.

As long as you're not in a hurry...anytime. If you're in a hurry then we'll have to find a time when we both have a few hours free.

You know it. I've got a few of these chillin' in the cooler out back, just waiting for you to fix my rear hub.

Word.

^I believe one must be sitting on an old sofa placed on a front porch when drinking that from the can.
(Oh yeah, rusted out 1984 car must be parked next to said porch)
(Oh yeah, one must be wearing a paper-thin wife beater shirt as well)

I'm meditating on what to do. I may call a psychic hotline for further instructions. Or maybe a magic 8 ball.

Must have been the shutter speed or the fstop or maybe the flash is on the fritz but that pink is awfully washed out in that picture. Looks more North American than European..:D

I kinda stopped following the saga when it appeared you weren't getting the Pinny but I thought you said something about some new wheels for your steed. That them?? If so, you likey??
