Touring - Riding to Canada, Flying to Cuba

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So I am going to set out on a solo tour from Prescott, AZ to Toronto on June 16. Once I get there, I am going to fly to Cuba, ride there, and then on to Cancun. I was wondering if anyone had any route suggestions, or caveats. Thanks :D

Someone from EXPERIENCED touring cyclists gave a very valuable "suggestion", which I c ompletely agree with:
"throw all the guides away, and let the nature show it itself".
The beauty of unexpected is different to planned route. :) IMHO :)
Good luck! Be safe!

I read that same article, and she contributed to her own demise by telling folks where she had been. Oh, and she came back to the states thereafter. I will be flying on to Cancun. Still, it is something to think about.

It is my understanding that Cuban officials upon request will not stamp your US passport. This is one way of avoiding the wrath of the IMC.
I've been to Cuba many times. You will enjoy the Cubans. They are a proud and honest people.

If going to Cuba you must read "Bicycling Cuba" by Wally & Barbara Smith. Don't bother with the "Lonely Planet", poor book dubious information.
There are now some good road maps but you have to be there to get one or have someone send you one.
Good luck with your trip, you will love the place & people. I have riden a bike there may times and it is the place for me.

As the other posters have said be careful. I understand this administration is taking travel to Cuba very seriously.
