I am 5' 9" and I ride the 56. It is on the long side but I like it that way. Feels more comfortable to me than my 55 cm Bianchi.

I would definitely NOT get a 54 if you are 5'11".

BTW, I love the bike. The fork gives it a silky smooth ride and very lively. I have a set of cross wheels and road wheels and I can do anything on that bike.

6'3", 34" inseam, and I ride a 60cm. It's a bit long in the top tube for me, but otherwise it's been a great bike.

The 54cm model has a 56.5cm top tube. The road bikes I've ridden with a top tube of 57cm seem very comfortable. Is there something else I should consider?

I should add that mine's older, so it may have different geometry. I also didn't get it sized to me, I just went by my other bike and a fit calculator. I'll post pics soon.

I'd go by TT, it's pretty sloped so you shouldn't have to worry about stand over. Ghostman's 56 seems big to me, but everyone's different. Are you commuting or racing?
You could probably send your measurements to Gunnar and ask them for advice. I've written them before and they're very helpful.

I love my Gunnar. I haven't had it for that long but I like it more every day.

I have a 52cm '01 Crosshairs and I'm 5'10", 32" inseam. A 54cm frame would also work for me; here is a shot of the bike with the seatpost set to the correct height for me:

I had a 56 3 seasons ago......I developed knee problems. I'm 5' 10".......a 54 would have been better. Other than that it was a nice ride.

I have an ugly lime green 54 crosshairs but ride a 56 red roadie. I am 5'10" with 31 inseam.

I'm 6'0" and have a 58cm crosshairs. It's a bit long on the top tube for me - I compensated w/ a short (80cm) stem. Standover & seatpost height look & feel fine. It fits me comfortably now but it's at the upper end of frame size I would ride, probably a 56 would have been better. I think either 54 or 56 would work for you w/ correct stem size - 54 will be lighter, 56 will be more stable.

Got my Gunnar back in '98 or '99, so I don't remember what frame size it is. Never noticed if it is stamped on the bottom bracket area anywhere, but here are the measurements:

53 Top Tube c-to-c
48 Seat Tube c-to-c
51 Seat Tube c-to-t.o.c.

I'm about 5'-5 and change, and I use a 90mm stem.

That really point out how odd it is that chainstay length isn't proportional to the rest of the frame. His rear is going to be right over the rear hub.
