Hi all, I'm new around these parts, I was wondering if there are any Recumbent riders from the UK on here? I live in the Bristol/Somerset area myself, though always willing to ride a long way to meet a like minded individual.

I ride a Scorpion Trike myself, not had it very long, but love it dearly.

Hi Ian, there are relatively few of us around, I live not far from you in Bruton, Somerset and currently ride a HP Grasshopper, but also looking at a ICE trike. As yet only ever seen one trike in Bradford on Avon a few weeks ago, and one other recumbent coming through Bruton a few years ago. It gets lonely out there some times

Ian there are a few UK benter on the BROL (http://www.bentrideronline.com/) forums so you might want to post there as well.

I'd love to hear your impressions of your trike and see some pics...:D

Hi Andrew-I think I once cycled near Bruton, though that was in my pre-bent days. Anyway it's cool to know there are other riders round these parts, the only other person I've seen on one around Bristol is Adam Hart Davis ( the broadcaster ) I think he has an ICE Trike. I'm sure there must be more of us, just got to find them. I was interested in a Grasshopper for a while, how is it? It looks like a fine machine, I haven't tried a 2-wheel recumbent yet though I'd like to very much.

Vik-Thanks for that, I did have a look there but I'll have a proper look later on. The Scorpion is fantastic, it's the only Trike I've ever ridden so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it's really revolutionised the way I look at cycling, it's comfortable, fast, stable and very well designed. I was pretty much sold on it the moment I tried it out. I went up a very steep and long hill on it last night and it was actually fine, with the extra wheel there is no chance of tipping over so I just span my legs, sat back and took my time. I'll try and get some pics of the beast up soon.

Ride safe,

Ian

Hi Ian, The Grasshopper has taken a little while to get use to, still haven't done any long distances but I think that at last I have it setup correctly, the front chain ring that came with the bike is the wrong gearing for around here, so have been experimenting with different sizes before i put a SpeedDrive on. Stability is getting better but hills are still hard to keep the speed up without wobbling all over the road. I plan to start commuting shortly about 22 miles each way, so will have to get the average speed up. I have been reading about the Scorpion, the Grasshopper is very well made so I would think that the Scorpion is in the same league, will test ride a Ice trike first in Falmouth, as that is foldable, but I think that HP will be shortly producing a folding Scorpion, Andrew

I must say having the extra wheel is great for hills, that said I'm sure a 2 wheeler is faster on the flat. It is good fun to commute on, it makes me actually look forward to going into work.
A folding trike would be very good, I heard they were making a folding Scorpion and did think about getting one however it wasn't released yet and I just couldn't wait any longer. It would be useful as my machine does take up quite a bit of room in the work bike shed.
Let me know how you get on with the trike, there's a few hills in Falmouth if I remember so that's a good place to get the feel for one.
