OCR=oversize compact road (large diameter frame tubes)
TCR=total cr (it's more compact than the ocr?)

This is an educated guess....
TCR = Team / Compact Road Technology
OCR = Oversized / Compact Road Technology
You'll almost always see TCR used in conjuction with "Team" in much the same way that OCR is used in conjuction with "Oversize" or "Oversized".
Moreover, the big difference between the TCR frames and the OCR frames is the geometry and weight. The TCR frames were developed for racing, feature very aggressive geometry, and come in under the 1 kilo mark. The OCR frames were developed for "weekend warriors" and feature relaxed geometry for a more forgiving ride. They weigh in at 2.5lbs, a bit over the 1 kilo mark.

I looked thru all our lit. and it is not mentioned anywhere. i called in to the reps and no one was sure. So I emailed the product developer and when he gets back to me I will post.

TCR= total compact road
OCR=ovalized compact road, this does not really apply anymore as the tubes are now mostly round.

Well, I guess that's why no one pays much attention to what the initials stand for... The first one is nearly meaningless and the second no longer applies. Perfect.
I think I like my guesses better; at least they tried to tie back to the marketing/design of the two frames.
Of course, given Giant's penchant for acronyms (TCR, OCR, GCT) it makes one wonder if Giant isn't actually G.I.A.N.T.?

And now I have another tidbit(more email) from Giant that says the O stands for oversized not ovalized, which, I guess does still apply.
The acronyms are confusing but they do ride nice.

According to the website below, TCR stands for "TIG and Compact Road technology", not "Total Compact Road."
And it says OCR stands for "Oversized Compact Race".. hmm, probably they meant "Road."
So, both the "T" in TCR and the "O" in OCR describe the manufacturing processes of the frames. Kinda makes sense, huh? Probably the TIG welding process was a big deal back in 1996, when TCR first came out.

TIG welding was used on "department store" bikes in the late 1970's and the first TIG welded, bike shop bike (Specialized's Stumpjumper) showed up around 1981. By 1996 TIG welding was was just another one of several methods of fabricating bicycle frames, i.e., lugged, fillet-brazed, bonded, composite...
