I didn't do the crit on Saturday, but had 2 teamates there in the 4's(one of them took 7th). I was told that the course was the most dangerous they've ever raced. I guess the course went from about 40' wide to around 15' through turn 1, with tall curbs on the edge. One teamate had to bunnyhop the curb twice, to avoid wreckage. I heard that every race had people leaving in the ambulance. Even if these are exagerations, it sounds like it was dicey, and that's why I wasn't there. Murrieta got a lot of criticism last year, for having dangerous courses, you'd think they'd find a safer course/
Sunday Circuit Race:
Got up at 5:25am, which felt like 4:25, thanks to the stupid fricking DST. Arrived in Murrieta at 7:00am, and was tired and cold. I managed about a 5 minute warm-up, mistake #1:( before heading to the start. Mistake #2, lined up too late, and had to start at the back. The course itself was pretty good, 3.5 mile loop with about 100' of roller climbing, each lap. The centerline rule was enforced, which made for a really tight course, it was very difficult to move up. Our race started fast, for about the first 3 laps. I suck without a good warm-up, so I was just making sure to hang on at first. By about lap 5, I had whittled my way towards the front, but kept sliding to the middle, and having to re-fight my way up. The race was pretty much, sprint and recover the whole time. A couple of times the pace picked up and got strung out, only to bunch back up a minute later. Somewhere in the race, halfway maybe, half of the field was dropped, we started with around 75 and the lead group finished with around 35. On the last lap, I tried to get back up front, but with 2 turns to go, it was obvious that it was too late, so backed off, to avoid the typical last turn crash (which didn't happen:) ) Overall, the circuit race was pretty fun, it would've been nice to have more road to work with. We did 40 miles, with an average of 25mph, with no crashed. For me it was a good training race, and a reminder of important things, like warming up and getting to the line early;) After the race, I head over to Valley Center and enjoyed a hot and windy climb up to the Palomar Observatory.

Wasn't me, I don't get to ride Saturdays (or if I do, I'm home by 8:30am) :( . All these years, and I've never done Food Park, if I'm not racing or climbing in the mountains, I'm usually at Como on Sundays.

No worries..Como is harder anyway (IMO)
I have been on Veloce for about 7-8 yrs. I mostly race 30 plus Crits. I am trying out a few more road races this years than before. The road racing seems more civilized but I lack the watt/lb ratio to end with the pure climbers.
Pretty soon I will be doing Fpark and Como combo. Usually I just do Fpark.
See you out there.
