Last chance tune up the climbing legs for the B.A. preview. How about a ride up Big Tujunga to Mt. Gleason. Thats at Mill Creek Summit on Angeles Forest. There is an amazing view of both the San Gabriels and Aliso Canyon. There are so many distance and elevation options that I'm not going to list all but from the start to Hidden Springs cafe is 44 rt. I plan doing 80ish with 8000-9000ft. Trust me its not as hard as last week. 8am. Lakeview Terrace rec center. Foothill east of Osborne. Interested?

So this is a training ride for a preview ride - so it's a training training ride?

This thread is a preview of this ride, so it's a preview preview preview.

Vertical Bob,

Is food/water readily available along the way? Got directions from San Diego?

Thanks,

Ian in SDYes Ian there is food and water at a nice little cafe with a 25 year old cat. If I was coming from San Diego I would land at Burbank Airport. I think driving you would take the 405 or 5 to the 118 east to the 210 east. Take the Osborne exit and go east 1/2 mile to the Lake View Terrace rec center on left. The start is at the very north end of the San Fernando Valley in the foothills of the San Gabriels. Please double check the part about the 118-210 connection. Ps if you are coming on the 5 you can take it to the 2 near Dodger Stradium, take the 2 north to the 210 west. See ya.

I didn't know you were there at the finish Saturday, or I would have said hi. VB's ride next Saturday starts on Foothill east of the Osborne exit from the 210, a few miles east of the 118. There is a cafe 20 miles up, which you will also see on the way back, depending on the option you choose. If you decide to go over to Angeles Crest, there are places to get water, but no food unless you go up to Newcomb's Ranch, which would add climbing and mileage.

Karen, it's 11075 Foothill, Lake View Terrace. 23 to the 118 to the 210 east (Pasadena), first exit is Osborne, at the bottom of the ramp, go left about 3 or 4 blocks (cross bridge) to park on left.
See if Christy will come, we won't drop, (not sure if I'm going), and Bob always regroups, plus you can turn back anytime.

Karen, I may do this ride on Saturday. I actually emailed Bob to see if he wanted to climb in those mountains this Saturday, and I can do this with very little driving involved. If I go, you know you won't be dropped (besides, Bob never drops me). :)

I was wondering why you bailed early. You missed a couple thousand feet more climbing. We also met up with Extort and 1265 Lombardi.

It wasn't pretty. Just didn't eat. I barely made it back (downhill) to the car alive. Foolish. I felt like death Sunday, and even into Monday.

I am not sure if I can do the WHOLE ride, hopefully there will be others that turn back early!
Let me know for sure if you decide to ride!

Dude, if you're going to climb like that, you have to fuel yourself. Did you make it to the top of 39?

Well, unless I feel like I do today, I'm in for sure. But I'm holding out on saying 100% until Friday. But it does sound like an awesome ride, and I can always find an extra 20 miles if I just HAVE to have 100 miles. :D

What? I can call my butt ginormous if I want. I never said it wasn't cute. Listen, there are some boys out there who like it and would like me to split..

Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled thread (so as not to smut up Bob's thread), John, I think that would be perfect! But we're not riding from RB to Encanto, right? You know the starting point that Bob's talking about, yes?

(Sorry...obviously I'm a neurotic cycloholic! :p )

So what's up with this? You wanted to bail on my Sunday ride because you wanted downtime/rest - agreed to drop the Saturday JAX ride instead - and now you are scheming to do a hilly sufferfest on Saturday.

You are hopeless!

Great, I should have known you'd know the way! Now, if after my doctor's appt. on Thursday I feel better, I'm doing the ride on Satruday because I'm sick and can't stay off my bike, which means I'll meet you at the Rose Bowl (I am assuming at 6:45 for roll at 7:00ish?) I suspect we'll be in the mid 50s, low 60s at the coolest (but Bob can answer to this better and may laugh at me...i.e. it may be cooler up in the mountains). But the climb up on Big T should be gorgeous and the descent even better. The views up there will be breathtaking (Bob doesn't lie!) :D

I'm not sure if an hour would be realistic, it's a little over 16 miles with stoplights and this is the elevation profile...

That works for me, I didn't mind having a warm up, especially if it would allow me to leave from the house, but that was a decent amount of climbing just to get to the climbing and I really didn't want to get up that early again.

Okay...okay...you all are nuts and quite confusing. :p Glad to know ye.

And just what are these climbs you speak of? I am only familiar with Little Tujunga, Little GMR, GRR, and Big GMR. I've ne'er been to th'others.

Now, can somebody please, succinctly, give the lowdown details? I've heard Saturday, Sunday, this weekend (3/17)? Or next? Time? starting point?

I do have a family and I really need to try and rescue these relationships that are getting in the way of cycling. :D

BTW: I have looked at the elevation profile for Breathless AGony and it doesn't look so bad. The climbs are all 6% grade or less (I start to suffer when they reach 7-8%). Is it hard just because of the length of the climbs?

The address is somewhere in this thread. Its on Foothill Just east of Osborne in Lakeview Terrace. Big T is the next Canyon east from Little T. It connects to Angeles Forest to Palmdale and to Angeles Crest.
