first, the tendon below my knee caps hurt, then the point above the knee caps hurt, and now the cartilage on my knee caps is rough feeling. i thought i was spinning. now i'm not sure. its odd. everyday they seem rougher feeling even though i'm doing nothing but walking around now.

is there anything i can do to heal my knee caps faster? i would like to be able to ride again by wed.

What else have you been doing, besides cycling? Weights, if so what? Running? What's your cycling program been? Do you have rollers or a trainer?

i've been liftin weights too, but i spent 9 month of last year lifting without cycling and didn't have this problem or any others. i spent 3 months this past summer cycling and had recurring problems like tendonitis. i was cycling 10-15miles 4+ days a week during the summer.

i was lifting 4 times a week. i took the bus to the gym and cycled back. that mean about 20 miles a week of cycling. i just started cycling to and from the gym, so, if i had been allowed to continue my work out plan i would've been cycling 40 miles per week.

ever since i started cycling again i've had knee problems.

and i don't run and have no rollers or a trainer.

Your knee pain could be a result of a number of things including proper bike adjustments. Check out these links for known causes and (hopefully) fixes:

I used to have knee pains until I changed my saddle height and adjusted its forward/rear position. YMMV.

Doctor.....preferably one with experience in treating sports injuries.

Get a professional diagnosis if it's worrying you.

Strained patella tendon, aka "jumpers knees". That would be my guess. Also, your knee cap may have some tracking problems. That's what my Orthopedic Surgeon told me. Check this site out...and stay away from cortisone injections.

I had the patella tracking problem. Patella-femoral syndrome. If it feels like a knife under your kneecap when you run or go up stairs, backing off and doing leg extensions cured it for me. You don't need weight, just sit on something firm and extend the leg for 30 seconds - repeat 10 times 3X/day. Technically, your vastus medialis isn't up to snuff.

yeah, i had been lifting weights (i've stopped for the past week) and i had started working on becoming really explosive with my cleans. i think some of this might be attributed to the fact that i'm using tennis shoes to lift in, i need some proper hard soled shoes. i think i may have also been spinning slower than i thought was. staying in the middle ring may help.

how would a worn out tenon make my knees feel rough?

Personally I wouldn't do "explosive" weight lifting without a good trainer. Pay the trainer now, or the physical therapist later.
