OK, last crank question for the day ;) Do they need to be compatible with a 10 speed drivetrain? I would guess not, but before I make a bad purchase, I figured I'd ask. Our friends at Nashbar have the Ultegra 6500 cranks on sale for a pretty sweet price, I think it would look pretty good on the CdF I have on order!

I guess basically, it might require a little more adjustment than usual, but it should work.

When I got new cranks they had to replace my bb spindle to something a little longer to align with the RD.

A while back I bought the 9spd Shimano Ultegra triple crankset from Nashbar and installed it into my 10spd drivetrain. Many, many happy miles with no issues, and it works a hell of a lot better than the stock TruVativ piece of crap that came with the bike.

I did have to buy the appropriate Shimano BB, but the total was something like $115.

If I have a double and am getting another double to replace it, I should need a different length BB spindle, correct?

Maybe. It depends on the design of the new crank vs the old one - with mine it was still the same ration but the new crank (Sugino) was too close to the frame. It will unfortunately probably be one of those things that you'll try, notice that it won't fit, and get a new spindle.

You may want to post this (or search more) in the Mechanics forum - if you tell them what you have and what you want to upgrade to they may know off the bat.
