...because it's going to drive me insane!
It used to be cool to ride the bus. Now it's full of crackheads, crazy people who feel they absolutely need to talk to you, smelly drug dealers, etc. Even worse is during rush hour in a city that has archaic bus service to begin with really makes for an unpleasant time. I'm really glad it's warming up, Im looking to try doing at least 160 days straight on the bike.

Screw you bus!

Note: for anyone here who takes the loser cruiser. this isn't directed at you, you're okay in my books:D

I'm in no way against public transit, I just hate my public transit.

I really like riding the bus on occassion. It's a good time to decompress and look at all the other people, chill out, and look out the window.

Not that she will ever ride them, but she doesn't understand that normal people have cars and crackheads ride bussess..

I am what is considered normal for the most part, I have a truck that I drive, and bikes that I ride. But I still take the bus quite a bit. Infact, every weekday almost. My truck is expensive to run, thus if I'm going somewhere like school or work (unless I need the truck for something) I take the bus. I can sit and chill, not deal with traffic or other stupid drivers and be nice to my wallet at the same time.

I'm lucky... if I have to go to UT, I just walk about half a block to a shuttle bus. Worst case there is having to stand up and hold a pole for the 15-20 min trip to campus. However, sadly enough I go to another university where it takes hours just to jump the bus exchanges, as each one runs every hour, and they are staggered in such a way that when one arrives at the bus stop, the next one just left, so its an hour spent cooling heels. :/

I feel for ya. I'm all for public transit, yet whenever I go to England I refuse to step one foot on either train or bus. This is a result of a society that worships the car and thinks public transport is nothing but a noose around our necks.

"Anybody seen in a bus over the age of 30 has been a failure in life"
- falsely attributed to Thatcher but matches her attitude anyway

p.s. "loser cruiser" good one

How do you get around then? I catch the tube into London as it's easier than driving. Even when I lived in Sydney I preferred to use the metro when going into the city.

When I come over it's visiting friends and family between Portsmouth, East Grinstead, Caterham, Horsham, and Croydon. Not a chance I could do that on trains for the same cost as with the car.

Plus I usually mix my trips with detours to Rouen and Paris.

I feel sick every time I pay for a train in the UK. It's outrageous that public transport is that expensive and that bad as well. I f***ing loathe Thatcher, Beeching, and all of Blair's 'legacy' for what they've done.

Oh yeah, I do for London what I do for all large cities. Park on the outskirts, cycle in :D

I love cycling through London. I get such a kick out of ripping through that city faster than everyone else.

That said, I wouldn't say it's pleasant per se. But still better than the alternatives.

As soon as I sat in it, I could smell it, too. There was the faintest hint of malt liquor in the aroma. Perhaps it was Billy Dee William's seat at some point previous in the day? I dunno. It was gross.

Heh, I call the bus I ride "The Schemie Express." Brits will probably get this. I feel his pain though, and I walk 2 and a half miles for the privilege of taking the bus. As soon as the snow more less clears out, I'm back on the bike.

Roughly once every two weeks, I can't stand it, so I drive. :o Sorry. :(

SIIIIGGGHHH, I'm going to post this so MAYBE, someone will think before they type next time. Normally I leave my color out of posts. It serves no purpose. It's been a rough day though, seeing this crap doesn't help. Blackie out.

whoa...i totally missed something...but maybe it's cause someone was blockedy blocked. It sounds like it was something waaay not cool that caused Siu and Jameson to have to call it out. Suxor, I see the future, and it involves lockage.

Jameson
03-14-07, 10:18 PM
Nope, no problems with Siu. I assume she didn't mean it was okay to use racial slurs but it was not okay to fight...because that would be weird. My problem is with the white n***** remark. I like coming home from the store, passing a car and hearing the doors lock while the occupant watches me out of the corner of their eye and then reading BS comments about n******, whatever color they happen to be. Pleasant stuff. I enjoy a hobby were my skin color is an anomaly. I still get double takes in the LBS I frequent. I've never seen a brother on the trails. I've grown accustomed to the ignorance still very much alive and well in this "free" country. Normally I avoid skin color like the plague. It should be irrelevant. But every now and then it sets me off. I especially dislike the term white n*****, it's a cover for racism. If you "act" black then your automatically a N*****. Siu, I don't really see any thing against you on this one. I've already reported the post and hopefully it will be blocked.

Flippin Sweet
03-14-07, 10:27 PM
I didn't see any problems with Siu, either, i think the post she was responding too was blocked/deleted on my end, as well. Probably for good reason. yeah, um, there's enough childishness 'round these parts that it's no wonder I wouldn't know WHICH post she was responding to! Oh, dear...
thanks for speaking your mind, tho.

Someone said something very childish and hurtful to Jameson. That wasn't very nice. He asked what he would be considered regarding his skin tone and I said "mostly toasty, like me".

Then I tried to NTWC it by being silly and then I felt that in able to stop the fighting, I had to be childish. And I shouldn't have had to feel that way.

Jameson and I have no problems at all. I dont' know him very well but I don't like it when he was offended. That wasn't very respectful at all. Maybe the person who wrote it doesn't realize that it was a derogatory remark but we all must remember that behind the keyboard is a real person with real feelings. And you cannot see the color of him or her. We should all be the same on this forum.

((hugs)) to you, Jameson

And just to really confuse people, I am Chinese and grew up Black. Go figure.

I don't see the term ****** as racist. It's denigration of someone for pretending to be something they're not. It's a term based on the old racist n-word, but it is not used in a racial sense so much as a cultural sense.

If I hear the term ****** I assume it is meant in a sense that someone is pretending to be 'ghetto', not that they're pretending to be black. I understand the sensitivities, and I don't use the term myself, but I don't attribute such a distinctly racial interpretation to it.

Sucks that you stand out so much just because of your skin colour Jameson, that's gotta be frustrating.

With much love and respect to everyone I gotta say any word with a basis of n***** is racist. I understand the sentiment Nicodemus and Siu thanks, I got a little carried away. Like I mentioned earlier, I RARELY make an issue of my color. I'm in my early thirties and things are better than what I remember growing up on the outskirts of Chicago. We could get into the entomology of the word ****** but I don't think there's any point. I completely understand the cultural aspects of the word as it is used today. I still don't like it. I've gotten into discussions with white friends of mine and to be completely honest, they just don't get it. Without living in my skin it is hard to understand all the countless snubs, looks and remarks. True, the klan doesn't march around any more(aside from the idiotic legal demonstrations) but things like women locking their doors when you walk by with an arm full of groceries...... people following you around the store watching you... bags being clutched tighter... don't get me started on the police...it's enough to drive you mad. I apologize for losing my temper and withdraw my remarks. The "angry black man" rhetoric was equally unacceptable. All I did was further stupid stereotypes. Have a great day everyone and don't forget to ride your bikes!

 cute, you think you lost your temper. Man, that wasn't OTT or ranting or anything, quite mild. Don't sweat it. Besides, if a rant is coherent it can have some merit. It's only the spluttering, hate-filled senseless ones that I find really silly.

It's hard for people who have experienced discrimination to get that across to others who are unaware of it without seeming like you have issues. And in reality, those who have suffered will obviously have issues of a sort - the challenge lies in not overcompensating when dealing with people who might agree with you anyway, if only they didn't feel like they were being blamed. Yet at the same time so many are totally ignorant of the reality they don't experience personally.

Either way - man, it just seems so weird to me to imagine people clutching bags and locking doors at the sight of me. If anything, all I get is people pointing and laughing. But I guess I deserve it for dressing and acting like a freak.
