any info would be cool!Where in the heck is Ladera Ranch? Never heard of it.
^^^ I didn't want to be the first to ask that....:p
It's not far from Laguna Hills/Laguna Niguel...
i thinks it is around mision viejo...i think (im from mich)
Ladera ranch.
So Orange County, right next to Rancho Margarita.
I lived next to it, and there is NO reason to go through it.You'd never find it if
you weren't heading there. On the other hand, a very nice brand new comunity, with over priced
housing.
How far did you want to go?
There is lots of nice riding.
I'd ride up (north) on Antonio parkway, and catch Santa Margarita parkway, turn left.
Go as far as you like, then turn around and come back.
If your in the mood for a fairly long ride, from Santa Margarita PKWY turn
right on El Toro. It turns into Santiago Canyon rd. which is a nice ride, just fast traffic.
You can also go here;
http://laderacyclery.com/index.cfm
and ask them. They hold ride every week, never ridden with them, but have been told they are
fast paced.
How lond are you here? There are quite a few here in So OC that would ride with you
and show the way.
good stuff!
we rode up (north) on antonio today, looked like a good place to go. we had to turn back, as i found out my head set was not snug. we then went south on antonio and ended up on a trash hill. sounds like well try to go further north on antonio tomorrow and turn on santa margarita.
and if anyone is interested we are here till the 22nd.
oh, is pch a cool place to ride?
oh, is pch a cool place to ride?
PCH is nice. Just a fair amount of traffic.
You can drive down and park at Doheny beach, and then ride
either No or So on PCH.
You could ride from Ladera Ranch to PCH, which would be nice.
being here from Michigan, do PCH on a nice sunny day, you
won't regret it.
Ladera Ranch? Get yourself into Live Oak Canyon and Santiago Canyon.
Take Antonio toward Rancho Santa Margarita. Turn right on Santa Margarita Pkwy. Go left on Plano Trabuco. That will abruptly jog left (90 degrees) then you'll hit some fast switchbacks. Take this past O'Neil Regional Park, through Live Oak Canyon, which is gorgeous. Take this to Cooks Corner (a biker bar). Turn right on El Toro/Santiago Canyon Road and go as far as you want. Lots of nice climbing and descending in all of this.
NOTE: Live Oak is very narrow with virtual no shoulder -- but gorgeous. Cagers are used to cyclists and motorcyclists, so they usually give you a wide berth.
This is **insanely great** riding that shows off parts of what the Saddleback Valley area *used* to look like (not much of it left...). Plus, you can always stop at Cook's Corner and grab a frosty cold mug o' sudz at some point during your stay. The chicken tacos are good.
Oh hey, another cool thing to do: After those initial switchbacks and before O'Neil park, you'll pass by a general store type shop on your right. Behind it is the Trabuco Steakhouse. One of the oldest plankhouses in OC. Check it out -- and don't forget to wear your best tie.
