I visited Amsterdam last year and it was amazing. I was utterly amazed at the layout of the city for bicycles. I did almost get hit by bicycles a few times though, not being used to their bike lane set up. Great pics, makes me want to go back soon.

OK, I have to go to work. you guys should check out this site, it's amazing. www.pps.org.
I don't have pictures but Minneapolis has some nice fairly new two way bike lanes running along the Light Rail corridors. Hopefully some one from there can post a pic or two. If it wasn't for the fact that the average temperature for January is 3 I would consider moving there:p

I was there for 10 days and don't recall seeing a single bike helmet. Not even in the stores.

WOW - interesting bikes...
I think they might be electric or something.
Portland's circulating a draft RFP for someone to install, maintain and manage a fleet of this type of rental bike.

Wow that is a great web site! Here's a choice quote:
Streets Are People Places
The first step in winning back our communities is realizing that cars should not rule the roads.
By Fred Kent
I have a favorite saying about transportation: "If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places."
Thanks for pointing me to that. I'm going to share that with my bicycle advocacy group.
It IS a great website, isn't it? and some really great ideas. and a plethora of bike and pedestrian facilities that work and are used daily. re-making spaces for people, not automobiles.

Didn't Portland already try that (the yellow ones) and they all got stolen within a week and someone was arrested with a truck full trying to sell them in San Diego?

The yellow bikes program was a free program run by volunteers and providing beater bikes. The proposed rental program would be based on an entirely different business model.

oh, cool. more secure somehow i hope?

I believe that the bikes are locked and you have to provide payment to release them from the locking system (kind of how the rental luggage carts are set up at the airport).
I like the way those bike lanes are set up. If we can set something up like that (and teach pedestrians not to enter into those paths unnecessarily), that would be totally rad.

Can you say, "Door Zone?"
Mostly everywhere in Europe is in the "Door zone" since the streets are so narrow. The difference is drivers know to look when opening.

A lot of the pix look like well-designed MUP's. This one, however, puts the cylist in the wrong place at the intersection.
how so? how could it be made better?

It looks like a low-speed street with curb cuts. They probably should just move parking to the area bike area and let cylists use the road. If there must be a lane, it shouldn't be next to traffic to make the cylists more visibile (less invisible).

To let motorists enjoy the view of cyclists?
Can you say, "Door Zone?"
There is a buffer zone, and the European cars and hence their doors are a lot smaller and don't stick out as far.

Looks like an arterial to me...
