I think the design is very good for a premade bike. But, enthusiasts are going to tweak it a little. My curiosity is what you would change if you had to take this bike across the country. Here's what I would do, in no particular order:
change the tires to 28mm ruffy tuffys
swap for trekking bars
use kool stop brake shoes
change big cog for a 46t
swap for brooks B-17
carbon seatpost for vibration (this one isn't really that big of a deal)
