Hi I recently purchased a 2006 Marin Argenta. It's a great bike Alum+Carbon fork and seat stays with Tiagra/105 componets. It has Shimano WH-R500 wheels, has anyone had experience with these wheels and their durability, i'm fairly heavy at present at 105KG/230LBs are these wheels going to handle my weight long term. I use the bike for commuting 100km per week.

i can only give you 2nd and 3rd hand advice....

i weigh 220. the roadie i just bought came with the wh500 wheelsets stock. frankly, i was hard pressed to find any positive reviews of them online (epinions.com, roadbikereview.com, etc.). i expressed my concern to the tech/salesperson (who, thru the process i've come to think very highly of). he said he's never had a single complaint about the wheelset and actually thought i'd be better off with this set because of the spoke count. i ended up paying an additional $100 to trade them in for complete 105 rims/hubs.

I just read somewhere the other day that the wh550, a little better wheel I guess, is rated for a 176# rider. I had been looking for this info because the Cannondales I have been looking at use these wheels.

Thanks for the advice guys, looks like my rims might not be up to it long term. Maybe i'll lose 60lb and i'll be OK:) :) :)

yea I put a pretty sweet ding in mine today at lunch after I nailed a pothole since I was following a car too closely. Burst both tires, too....
