Here's today's poll for those concerned about Bicycling Advocacy.
On tuesday, I was riding a few errands and came across this bicyclist on the MUP. He was hauling his groceries and sundries home from the store to his sailboat. It's a "bikes at work" trailer. I thought it was sooo cool to see such a large cargo hauler I took some pictures. Later, I began to think, what was this cyclist doing wrong?
Any comments are welcome, I thought the trailer was a great example of transportational cycling.

Didn't ask, but using my deductive skills- distance from store to marina- I'd say only a couple of miles.

The only thing I see "wrong" is that he is always in the "pedestrian zone."

The big thnig he did wrong is get photographed. He is actually a South American war criminal and he will now be hunted down.

He isn't wearing Oakleys and the bike has a kickstand. Where's da bib? Heck he'll be turning 400 watts and still be going slow as molasses. How Freddish, eh?:)

Well, now that you mention it I believe he has too much of his load situated to the front making his tongue weight excessive and possibly causing handling difficulties. He should also have running lights to illuminate his trailer. Interesting that this trailer looks an awful lot like the trailer in this thread:

Well, now that you mention it I believe he has too much of his load situated to the front making his tongue weight excessive and possibly causing handling difficulties.
There is a lady who is on her homeward (I assume) commute on her DF bike almost everyday I am too. I drive since I have a 35 mile commute.
Anyway, she has a cruiser bike with a kid seat, and carries a backpack in the seat and a second one hanging of the back of the kid seat.
The back one sways with each stroke, and the rear end of the bike swerves a good 12 inches. It is a really near out of control and dangerous ride, not to mention it must be a lot of work and uncomfortable.

Been there done that as a kid. Can't believe some of the things I did on a bike as a kid, in traffic no less!
As a paper boy sometimes the bags on the handlebars would steer and not me!:eek:

That brings back a flood of childhood memories, thanks. wow. I've been transportational bicycling for a long time now.
Remember the day you'd go collect, and walk up to the doors? then afterwards, doling out the cost of the papers, and what was left was your cut?
Then, the frenetic ride to the store for candy & comic books, the woolworth's for a swim mask, or the hardware store to see the Schwinn guy for a new bottom bracket and some axle grease?

Anyway, I forgot the obvious mistake- Dude with the trailer was using a SOFTRIDE saddle contraption on a fifteen year old mountain bike! (see pic #1) Talk about lack of handling with all that weight on the rear axle.....

Let's put it this way:
About 20 miles out of Belchertown on rt 202, I started chucking things into the woods with the intention of bungee-ing them back up on the return trip from New Hampshire.
Stacked a pylon of rocks and everything....
It's SO obvious, Bek. That guy was using a sidepath. Doesn't he know he's gonna get KILLED?
