I wasn't just talking about the bike racks, I know those are in other communities. I am talking more about the brand new Share The Road wrap on this bus. That is brand new. Des Moines has had bike racks for a while now.
And besides, a mwb recumbent wouldn't be able to fit those racks! My Rotator Tiger, on the other hand... At least that's what I've heard, I've never tried it. The bent's got way more legroom than the bus, anyway.
It looks like that recumbent rider on the side of the bus is starting to open a gap, I bet those wedgie riders couldn't find a draft behind it! :p

All the buses on my main drag, Willowdale, have had the racks for about a year. I don't really get the thinking behind equiping this route, as Willowdale is a very short ride from the Subway stations on Yonge. I have yet to see a bike on one of the racks.

But summer is coming, so we'll see what happens.

Does your community do anything like this on their city busses? This is neat. I think what I like best is the recumbent leading the way on the side of the bus.

That looks like an evolutionary chain. It starts at the back with a bmx and a cruiser, then works forwards through more aerodynamic positions. At the end the pattern breaks, and the recumbent emerges as the prime example of aerodynamic evolutionary ascendancy!

Judging by the difficulty we seem to have to respect even each other in this forum, that's quite a tall order.

Haha not really. Most people have more guts to be rude to each other online than in real life. If we acted in real life the way we acted online, there'd be more broken noses and black eyes...

That's awesome. Our buses finally got bike racks a few years ago, if I'm not mistaken, some bike org had to help pay for them because the area wouldn't cover the cost.
But we'll never see psa like that on any bus around here. Just not enough room for the psa AND the ads from Ford and GM :D

very nice, But no our Busses do not have any biking message.

Although Im happy to say that all busses that serve major routes in my area are now equiped with bike racks for the last 7 months or so.

works out great for me as often I dont have the time (or desire) to bike home. by the time I get dressed and leave office ... im home much later than I would like ,so the bus is great for those days.

Nice except for the fluorescent green color (that should be reserved for road crews, motorcyclist and cyclist). Maybe they could put the "same road, same rules, same rights" in a spot that makes it easier to read, rather than splitting it across a window.

In Pittsburgh we have bike racks on some routes (http://www.portauthority.org/PAAC/CustomerInfo/RacknRoll/tabid/267/Default.aspx) and the bus paint jobs are for sale (http://www.portauthority.org/PAAC/CompanyInfo/DoingBusiness/BusinessOpportunities/Advertising/Products/FullWrap/tabid/296/Default.aspx). But no local bike orgs or businesses have done that. It's a great idea. The municipal bus company, PAT, (Port Authority Transit), is in a dire funding situation (http://www.portauthority.org/PAAC/CustomerInfo/RacknRoll/tabid/267/Default.aspx). They are cutting back on more buses, routes, increasing fares and going begging for millions from Harrisburg. It would be interesting to see PAT support a Bike-Bus by giving a discount for the paint job.

This seems like a bargin.

Would the busses be able to fit more bikes if they had a small room on the bus where you hung your bike up vertically? It would mean, yes, no panniers and add ons; and it would not fit a recumbent...but I have seen rooms like this in train cars, and it might be worth trying on busses.
