i draft too when practical; do you draft biased left, or biased right?

i draft too when practical; do you draft biased left, or biased right? Almost always left biased. If you're on the right, with a plan to cut right if they suddenly slow, you're screwed if the reason they're suddenly slowing is to merge right in preparation for a right turn.

Left biased drafting also has the advantage of causing motorists in the adjacent lane to slow down and adjust left as they are approaching from behind, thus leaving you safe buffer space to the left.

I was doing it the other day in Mission Beach traffic with my daughter in tow...

But, again: this is not a VC best practice!

How about you?

usually left, sometimes moving right if I see potential cross traffic conflicts to the right ahead, to try and show I'm back there. or if I'm losing the draft.

you're still not a car, dude :D

and you were practicing traffic drafting with your seven year old in tow? you take risks with your child, helemt. I'm not sure you're all there, buddy.

I've had people tell me "That's not a bike, it's a car."
It's a velomobile, and it really turns heads.

Is that a Raleigh 20 under the "hood"?

Oh, we were probably not going any faster than 15. It was stop and go in narrow lanes. I was behind a ways, but it was a truck so I could still catch some of the draft. I'm even more conservative with my daughter in tow than I usually am.

Ever since I was a little kid I was always naturally very cautious. I'm 46 and have never broken anything (despite biking, hiking, skiing, rock climbing, etc). Never crashed in a car (while I was driving). Haven't crashed on my bike since I was a kid, except for the usual adjustment period for new cleat/pedal system. First time I needed stitches was a year ago - and that was because of a silly kitchen incident (cut my finger sliding it across the "serrated blade" of a box of plastic wrap in the drawer).

I think it's safe to say I'm all here.
