Hello all!
Needless to say I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a few weeks. Since I registered to respond to a thread then thought better of it, I figure the least I can do is introduce, and share a little about myself.
I am not new to cycling but up until the last few months I have not ridden in about 8 years (got married, then lazy, then health problems, then I gave bikes away to nieces and nephews). In my youth, which coincidentally ended about 8 years ago :D , I used to ride road bikes and did some light touring. As for right now I’m riding the last bike I bought and never road, a Trek 730 I was going to use for commuting. Right now I’m getting in about 40 miles a week of recreational riding and plan to start commuting to work three times a week starting next week (18 miles round trip).
I came to the slow decision to start riding again after I read “It’s not about the Bike” and then seeing Lance do it again last year (I’m a cancer survivor myself). But by the time I got it together the Cleveland winter hit and I was not about to start riding in weather So, I waited until this spring.
Years ago I used to read all the cycle rags cover to cover and dream about the bikes I wanted but never had the dough. But, as I was tuning up the bike I needed to stop at the local cycle shop and I can’t tell you all how utterly amazed I was at how commonplace the once exotic pricey components had become. This really invigorated/inspired me and when I’m out riding I feel like I’m in my twenties again (I’m creeping up on forty) and can’t wait to get to a point where I can justify putting together a more “upscale” bike.
But until then I’ll be around, asking questions and hopefully offering some answers/advise as well.
And before I forget to mention it, this is one polite and professional forum.
