Touring - trek 1000 for touring

can u do the cross country route on a trek 1000 or does one really need a touring bike?

I believe you can fit a luggage rack to this low-end road frame, and you can fit 25mm, possibly some 28mm tyres under the brake calipers.
This is OK for a weeks hostel-style touring, but you will be pushing it on a continental tour.
You can do it, but you will need to be ruthless with your luggage, and travel ultra-light. Check out some of the ultra-light hiking sites to see if you could travel like this.
You would be better off getting a proper touring bike or a roadified MTB.

why the bigger tires? they have 25 on them now. The way had it figured was the smaller the tire the less rolling resistance. A Little easier going.
what about using a BoB trailer?
