General Cycling Discussion - Bicycle Insurance

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone carry insurance on their bicycle here in the US?
I know the UK insures bicycles, but I have never been able to find any here in the states.

Homeowner's or renter's insurance can cover your bike. My friend just had his Trek STP stolen, and his renter's insurance cut him a $5000 check with minimal questions asked.

Yes, homeowner's insurance can cover it but you may need to get a rider for your bikes (no pun intended) if they're worth a lot.

Thanks for the info. My insurance agent told me that my homeowners would cover it, but I was kind of skeptical on whether they would pay.
Thanks for the info
Be sure that your policy will cover the replacement value of the bike. (ie: the cost to go to a bike shop and buy a similar bike) rather than the market value of your bike. (Which falls rapidly as soon as the 30 day return policy expires.)
