Ripping a CD shouldnt be a difficult operation, it should not take 45 ****ing minutes to rip a CD and put the songs on a mp3 player.

That isn't complicated, that is just slow. :p

It took that long to figure out how to rip the songs and put the songs on it.

Maybe because I grew up with it, it isn't so bad. But it seems like some people follow illogical paths to get what they want done on a comp and then blame the comp. Perhaps people will give you advice to solve your problem if you post the details?

So... this machine that can digitize musical sounds, save them to a magnetic media, replay them and then translate them to light pulses to put on a silicone disc should be simple. Like... turning on a light switch? Because, you know, generating electricity, conditioning it and delivering it to your house is simple. OK, wait... that sounds pretty complicated.

Ok... how about driving a car. Yeah, simple like that. Let's see... turn the key, hundreds of moving parts start moving, all in syncronization.... OK, another bad example.

Simple like what? The only thing that's coming to mind at the moment is your brain.

Computers are complex devices. The fact that you (or anyone of us) can operate one on even the most basic level is a testament to the engineers who do make them simple.

It's kind of annoying how people who don't get things think they're bent or broken, rather than take the time to learn how to use them.

Two of my pc's have a built in cam, my other one doesn't because that's the way I wanted them.

And I can rip a cd to mp3 in about 6 mins using whichever software I please.

WTP, what software are you using? Provided there isn't something wrong with your computer, there is an easier, faster way!

Ripping is super easy. You just need to find a better program for it....go hit up iTunes. It can rip an entire CD easily, and into MP3 format.

Machines are only as good/fast/smart as the operator!!!!! Put Mario Andretti in a Yugo, he will still be pretty fast.

Windows Media Player is the anti christ as far as ripping tunes is concerned. Very illogical and counter intuitive. I've got issues with Itunes as far as resource usage but I have to admit their cd ripping is pretty easy. Just make sure it rips in MP3 format and not their proprietary format unless you have an Ipod.

Because it's oh so easy to have a laser read billions of pits on a metal disc, to transfer the information as ones and zeros into memory, to have a processor interpret it all, including the track information to tell it where each track begins and ends? And that's just to get the data off the music CD. And mind you, there's more data here than could fit in 32 copies of my first computer's hard drive. Or five copies of my second computer's hard drive.

Then the real fun begins. How easy is it to analyze those ones and zeros to allow temporal compression to allow you to reduce the size of the file by about 90% and yet maintain the majority of the information (and thus sound quality)? No complex computers? No MP3's. This part makes that first part, the decoding of pits to generate billions of ones and zeros, look trivial.

Then the computer has to use yet another laser to blast a photosensitive dye in an exacting pattern to represent the compressed form. Way harder than the first part, but trivial compared to the second part.

Yup... all of this is pretty easy all right. It would be faster visualizing the data on the CD with your eye, pulling out a slide rule to compress and reencode the data in MP3 format, and etching the results onto a stone tablet. :p

Computers are SIGNIFIGANTLY easier than they used to be...at least from a hardware perspective. Everything is hotswap, pnp and software controlled. I still remember jumping my motherboard with every single freaking hardware change I would make. If I took a crap at the wrong time, I needed to let my pc know by moving jumper 33 from 1,2 to 2,3

As for burning/ripping/using. I can't stand itunes. I findit counter intuitive. I don't like windows media player...its worse (well for playing it ain't bad). Then again, I haven't ripped a cd since 92. I haven't burned one since 99 and I use an mp3 player that doesn't require anything proprietary.

And let's not forget about being rid of one class of computer bugs!

I don't know what all the bruhaha is! :eek: I can pop a audio cd in, have WinMP rip it and put in what ever folder I want it to in less time than it takes to smoke a cigarette. I can move it to an MP3 player in less time than it took me to type this post.

It's not the computers that are complex, it's the user-interactions that's messing with people. And that is an integral part of the operating-system. Some are much more user-friendly than others....

It really is not hard and only takes a few minutes. I didn't know how to until two weeks ago. Folks here were kind enough to help me figure it out.
