General Cycling Discussion - Help me choose a bike

im 13 and am in desperate need of a new bike. I only have about $150 max to spend and i want a semi light bike that can do all the basic tricks (wheelies, go off jumps, endos). I have no idea what to get cuz the only bike i have had for the last 2 years is a crappy huffy i won!!! My parents would never chip in for a bike but now i got enough money.

please give me a website or just a name of a good affordable bike.

Try going to a lbs and tell them how much you have and see what happens.Maybe pay and work or they may know of something for you and the right size.

lol i almost owed my mom $100 for a new window
i busted it wiht a baseball....so i put rubber gloves on so i wouldnt cut my arm and punched out the rest of the window....now w hen she says "i know you broke the window playing baseball" i can make her look stupid and go.....how could a little round baseball break out a perfectly square shape in the winder

Save another $150 and go with a Giant.

I second Pete Clarks advice, save more money and get something quality. I think you'll thank youself in the long run.

i only get 5$ a week and im always in debt for something....this is as high as i tihnk i can go lol

At your age you can earn some more money. Mow yards, wash cars, get a paper route, offer to do odd jobs for elderly who have no other help. There's ways to make money if you want to work.

Nope....im 13...thats 7th grade. I cant mow lawns because i live in the middle of the woods with no neighbors lol. I cant get a job till im 14 and i would b VERY lucky if i even got a job then

Can you check into neighborhood programs and see what they've got for kids with bike programs?

We have a program here in Chicago where kids learn how to fix and maintain bikes, and the community will donate bikes for the cause. The kids learn how to build the bikes and fix them up, then they get to keep the bike. Kids need to be under 18 to qualify for the program.

Check with the nearest big city to where you are. Perhaps you'll find something in that area. It wouldn't be a new bike, but it would be your own bike, and free, as long as you attended the workshops and built it on your own.

I don't know how feasible this will be in your rural sounding area, but if you have a "Trading Times" magazine in your area, and you can swallow a little "new bike pride", consider picking up some thing used.

Some possibilities may include late model $400.00 dollar bikes (only 150.00 for you) that are gently used and being sold to fund some other oft' not thought through purchase. I must admit I am a cheap skate and have benefited from somone else's "impulse buy" more than once, and have some nice bikes to prove it :D

I think you had a good idea about asking questions and thinking about this important purchase. Good luck in your decision.

You should pay for that window first. Nothing irritates me more than seeing people not take responsibility for things they have done.

Have you tried pawn shops?

A cheap huffy is better than nothing. I rode mine for 7 or 8 years.
Where do you live? There are always people looking for someone who will work for a day or two doing manual labor in my area. I don't think I got paid minumum wage when I was 13, but it was money. The work I did included yardwork, clearing lots, housesitting, and lots and lots of bucking hay. It was all hard work, but if you work hard, people may be willing to recommend you in a couple of years when you are looking for a part-time job.

i looked into the bike program.......no luck i told what happened to the window and just have to work it off : ( o well i guess i deserve it

i had a bad experience wiht a huffy once..... anyway i wanted a big i could do some tricks off of and maybe go off some jumps without the thing collapsing.... nothing to pricy though....like 200 TOPS
