Training & Nutrition - Help! What is my best approach? A trainer & DVD?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am in the process of training for the Lake Tahoe AMBBR Century on June 3rd.

Unfortunately, 3 days ago, while on a lunch time ride, a lady opened her car door right in front of me. I hit it and severely broke my right index finger (I will have surgery next week to put pins in and/or screws in it) and the doctor does not want me riding on the road for 6 weeks.

He did approve a trainer.

What do I do? I am up to 50+ mile single rides, and at least 15 miles on other days now.

I can't afford to stop for 6 weeks and I also need to keep up hill work.

So, a trainer and DVD's? Which one? Help?

I know that spinervals puts out a dvd that has you following behind the coach on an actual road. I believe the dvd is about three hours long so that would cover you for the 50+ miles. Have fun with the trainer, it will be a workout like you've probably never experienced.

I've got the Kurt Kinetic fluid and its perfect. Keep your pets away while you're working out though!

I have Nashbars fluid trainer which I really like.

But I might also suggest signing up for a spinning class or two. I've recently started one, and it is a pretty good workout ... plus time passes very quickly, and the social aspect is nice. No one talks during the class (we're all working too hard), but we chat before and after the class. It's nice to get out of the house, and provides some variety.

Both. Try 'The Hardcore 100' DVD from www.spinervals.com
