Foo - St. Patrick's Day - Do You Have Irish Heritage?

Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's being celebrated in various ways around the world. Among them, everyone is allowed to "be Irish" for a day. One of these is that many people look back in their families and discover, remember, or celebrate their Irish heritage. Do you Foosters have any, and if so, how much?

I am half-Irish by my father's family who came from County Donegal, Ireland. They came to the United States, and later lived and worked throughout the country. My mother decended from the Hugonot (I hope I spelled that correctly) French of Northern France. As time and luck would have it, I came into the world featuring traits and appearances that were mostly Irish. I'm the last of the clan.

I gave up drinking alcohol so I'm not "irish" anymore.

Married Irish - every year my wife trashes my boys' room (hangs their underwear, shortsheets their beds) while they're asleep and blames it on the leprechauns. It's pretty funny.

Irish on my Welsh side. I like horseradish on my potatoes. Well I like it most anywhere.

Not that I know of. It's not a very significant line if I do have one.

Not Irish, but English roots. The first Sharrock was pressed into service for the British army during the American revolution. Upon arriving in America, he promptly deserted and joined the Colonial army. So I am descended from a traitor to the crown.

Irish.............father's side.

I have some Irish Protestant in me. My mom tells me that my grandpa hated the Irish and would always have the family wear red on St. Patty's Day.

Scot-Irish.

Irish side from County Mayo on the W Coast of Ireland and the Scot side from Motherwell and Glasgow.

Me blessed mothers maiden name be 'Bone', Her G'father from the old country.

Scot-Irish as well, on my dad's side, most recently in County Sligo. And apparently there's some Irish on my mother's side too, but in an extremely convoluted way.

Fascinating how having Irish heritage has such a high status in the US, compared to many other heritages. I wonder why that is.
