Foo - New highest speed/ crash

I took a sharp turn way too fast today and learned what a 42.4 MPH crash feels like.:eek: It sucks. Rear wheel is toast. My poor Krysium Elite, I will miss you:( . Both water bottle cages snapped off as well. Other than that the bike is fine, was checked out at LBS before I went to the hospital. I had to get the skin on my finger stitched back on and have abrasions, road rash, and lacerations from head to ankles. I don't think I'll be doing that again....soon.;) The doctor gave me Pain meds and an excuse from work for the next 3 days without me requesting either, so I am not looking forward to tomorrow. Before anyone asks, I know the speed of my crash from checking my computer AFTER the crash.:D

Exactly! When I realized there was no saving it I thought "THIS IS GOING TO HURT BAD! Self, Stay clipped in, hands on bars and ride it down. Self, DO NOT STICK OUT ARM OR LEG! Self, they will break at this speed. " Then I thought this is sure taking a longBAMSCREECHSCRAPE! It still hurt, alot. First thought after crash: "That must be my terminal velocity, hahahaha...owwowwowowow!"

Glad to hear the accident is being described to us by the person who experienced it (and survived...) and not from reading about it in the newspaper near in the obituary section. Good luck for a speedy and complete recovery and best wishes to be back on the bike as soon as possible.

Oh wow. I'm really glad that you are okay enough to come here a tell us this. You MUST be okay of the priority was getting the bike to the "doctor" before yourself!! (Priorities, right? ;) :p )

Now the next thing is, since you will be able to rest a bit, is to get your camera and post some pics of your battle wounds!!

If I was awesome I would not have pulled such a bonehead move and crashed myself.:D Thanks everybody for the good wishes. I was feeling real good after cresting Cardiac Hill and my endorphins got away from me descending on Hwy 121. And then the bike got away from me. I'm trying to get my niece to come take some pics to post. Otherwise I'll get the pics my club prez took and post them , but he just went on vacation. Scrubbing the rest of the gravel out of some road rash I found when I got home from the hospital sucked all over again. I even found a rock inside my shirt when I got home from the hospital. I literally am marked and banged up from head to ankles. I must have made an impression, the doctor repeatedly said " Do not take the gauze off this finger for 24 hours". He was worried I'd be riding tonight.:) I wouldn't do that. (Wife watching me too closely right now). :D I resemble my signature line tonight.

Sorry to hear about your crash. Looks like you were really lucky to come out of it in one piece. Wow, 42MPH is scary fast to be losing control, even in a car much less a bike.

Lots of guys going down at high speed lately. I think this is the third 40+ mph I've heard of this spring so far. Heal up soon, hope the bike came out of it with not much more than a toasted wheelset.

I went down at around 45mph today on my minibike, but I just got really muddy.

I wish you a speedy recovery, I cant imagine a fall on concrete going that fast.

Your story makes me glad I didn't let "the need for speed" get the best of me recently. I was on a nice long downhill grade on a route I had not ridden before (only knew it from a map). I was cranking hard in a tall gear when suddenly I came to a steep drop. At first, I kept cranking hard, 'til, somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind, I remembered that there is a roughly 90deg turn coming up. :eek: I squeezed down on the brakes, and was fortunate enough to get down from 28mph to about 17mph (looking back at my data later) before banking into that turn, which had loose gravel scattered across it. Otherwise, I might be postin' pics here, too. :o

Tegaderm. Those patches will keep you from having scars. Just trim your hair back as much as possible so it will stick to your skin and stay there. :) ((hugs))

I Agree. I obviously outpaced my common sense. And paid the price. I'm lucky I came out with such relatively light injuries.

What the hell, I went down at 20mph into a guard rail and I got more damage on me... thank god you didn't hit one of those, can't imagine how much meat you would lose if a bolt or something caught you at 40mph...

Guard rail probably would have killed me. No joke. Just the impact would have probably done it. The bike ended up on the side of the highway and I rolled off the road as fast as I could, before the next car came around the corner. I thought I was going to get run over after surviving the crash. I would say it is very likely I used up my entire allowance of luck for the forseeable future. God gave me a break on this one.

Went to the doctor for increasing chest pain...Add fractured ribs, and 4 to 6 weeks recovery to the injuries. This just keeps getting worse and worse. ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!! My fast bike is still being repaired too. Can I get a little pity? A little cheese with my whine, maybe? And I had ripped out my stitches early to allow me to shift gears too.
