Foo - A present for Foo...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
... and all the people in it, for being what it is, and what they are. A few timing issues and fudged notes, but Foo's got those, too. It's a recording of me playing with myself (cough) ... a Renaissance guitar duet called "La Rossignol" (The Nightingale), by the hugely prolific and long-lived composer "Anon".
La Rossignol (http://www.brezhnev.net/bikeforums/music/larossignol.mp3) (1.9 MB MP3 ... hope it's not too big, VV)
Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for being Foo.

Not bad, Goobs! Not bad at all!:D
(I suspect that you are your own worst critic!);)
Youse guize need to play togetha!
Glad you all liked it... and yes, Tom, each fudged note and timing issue is likely little knives stabbing into my ears.
I've also just realised that my one-year Bikeforums anniversary is tomorrow! I don't know if this piece is celebratory enough for that, though... :D

Perhaps the Malaguena?
Perhaps the Malaguena?
As a celebratory whatsit, or as a collaborative effort? Stacey's idea sounds nifty...

Liked it. gbcb.
Made me think of a minuet. :)
Thanks!
Here's another one in a slightly different vein — Antonio Lauro's Vals Venezolano No. 2 (http://www.brezhnev.net/bikeforums/music/valsvenezolano.mp3) (somewhat abridged... I couldn't be bothered with the repeats) (694KB MP3).
Was it that short? I thought it closer to two. :o

What, that I've been here? Nope, definitely just a year, though I can see how I might have caused enough pain and suffering for two :p

Wow Goobers those pieces are VERY nice. I would love to hear you play more for us!! Thank you for the gift to Foo.
Wasn't it you that posted a pic of you playing for Grandma? I remember the look on her face and now it seems so right to hear your playing style.
Beautiful, Goobers, absolutely beautiful Thank you so much.:)

What formats can you open? (For music?) I can audio record in PCM and convert to windows Format, for example.

Yes, I did post pictures of me playing for my grandmother at her 100th birthday party. I'll try to record some more, but have to practice first...
Tom: I can convert to/from pretty much any audio format -- PCM, AIFF, WAV, and MP3 should all work

wow.. very nice. . clean & polished -like Segovia! :D  ..It took a lot of 'proper' technique and practice, no? I've always been thoroughly amazed with the classical and solo jazz guitarists -- playing melody, chords and bass lines together in unison, its really inspiring. btw, you recorded this in a studio? what kind of classical guitar do you have & how much? (not that I know that much about classical guitars but... -except that they can be very/ the most expensive!) :)

I'd like to volunteer to do the video production. :)
I love it. It's so soothing.

Not sure the Segovia comparison is deserved, but I like it! :D
It was not recorded in a studio ... Believe it or not, I recorded it in my living room with the built-in mic on my laptop!
The guitar is an Almansa 402. I spent 420 Canadian dollars a few years back for it. It's a nice guitar -- fun to play -- but is meant as a student instrument. Nothing too fancy, but solid.

Where can I buy the album? I "dabble" in classical guitar but I fear I am no were near you caliber. Nicely Done! :D

That's a right nice flat top box ya got there Goobs! :)
Out of the five 6-strings I have, my favorite is a factory second Martin-Sigma Folk guitar, model escapes me.
So easy to play and sounds so nice. Only $30 at an auction. :o

Thanks, Stacey... I like it, too! A friend of mine up in Beijing had a cheap guitar -- probably about 30 bucks, too -- and it was really fun to play. The cheapies can be surprising sometimes.
Thanks also to ms.gio and Pwnt for your kind comments. The thing that I find about guitar is that even very simple pieces can sound very nice -- much more than is the case on, say, a piano.
And Tom: how do you want to do this? Do you read music or tabs? I've got a couple of duets lying around, if you're interested... Let me know!
Excellent, nice music to have in me ear as I start my Monday, THANKS!!

I can read either! I can also read Nashville Method progression charts.

Yeah.. they are o-kay. :D ..What model/year do you have? I happen to be partial to to the HD-28, and that 'eric clapton' one, -though personally, if I owned one I couldn't stand the idea of having another mans signature on 'my' guitar, no. I have a $200 yamaha, btw, with a solid top.. me likes it very much. (but if you want I trade for your martin, -cuz I like you) ;)

I have a 00 Concert size Martin, rather than a D body dreadnought.
My Classical is an ancient 1935 Espaņa made by hand by a master Luthier. (It has the sweetest sound by the way!)
I have a Gretsch Dorado folk guitar as well from the mid 70's. All are solid top, side and back. The Gretsch has a Sitka Spruce top and Maple body and neck, the Espaņa is a Spruce top and mahogany back and sides, and the Marten is all Cedar. :D

Why not keep this thread going, with you adding a new piece daily. How about some Dowland ? One of the lute suites of Bach ?

Wow.. you have any pics of the Espaņa, how much was it? I know what you mean about the D dreadnought martins, some ppl like that 'boomy' sound, but it's not really my thing personally. I have found there is a lot of difference between individual guitars, some martins have a very sweet sound, others not so much -- but they all the same price/make & model!
Rather than save up the cash to buy an all solid gtr with scalloped bracing, I just took a boxcutter and shaved the bracing on the inside.. surprise, it worked very nice! I love the sound of my cheapo yamaha, though maybe I have just grown accustomed and used to its sound, so I may be biased some what. But yeah, we definently need pics of your guitars Mr. Stormcrowe, if you can be accomidating. :)

Gosh. I'm flattered that you'd suggest that... but I don't think I would be able to do that daily. I can try to do something weekly, maybe. I *love* Dowland... I'll try to post something of his next.
Tom: The Espaņa must be beautiful! I'd love to see pictures, too!
