Not yet available to public but here is a sneak preview. Heard Peats running them and the dropmachine crew should be soon.

Can't wait for the reviews. Besides being a trigger I also read the shift 4 gears in one swipe. Hope they are as good as I hope :)
SRAM has been making some STELLAR stuff lately. If these shifters are anything like their other products, they're gonna be the bizzomb!

Cool. I was hoping SRAM would come out with something besides grip-shift.
Pretty soon you'll be able to completely rid your bike of Shimano components!
Yaaayyyy!
Rock on SRAM!!! They look pretty cool.
Finally, I'll be able to give serious thought to the new drivetrain ... this STX 8-speed is just a little heavy.
STX?!!
What you need is some SRAM shifters and an XO derailler!
Cool finally a real alternative to the forthcoming Shi*NO XTR-style brake/shift combo gimmick

Yes. :D
But as they say in accounting, the cash must flow first. :crash:
Amen!!! Danka will be stoked I think.

I am sure he will be one of the first in line to buy it when it becomes public :)

how many of you would buy a completely new gear system right away...especially since the company has not produced this type of shifter before....or would you wait 6-12 months to make sure all the kinks are out of the system?
They've been in production for some time. They're just now being released for public use.

I would wait until my current system dies (aka my deraileur) then I would make sure it was reasonable to buy. I am more against the xtr stuff being moved down to my LX range. I will wait but before I buy new shimano I would buy these...:)

I second the motion. I don't plan on worrying about it until I have something worth worrying about.
I run a full SRAM system. An XO derailler/shifters, a SRAM 9.0 cassette, and a SRAM PC 99 chain. I assure you there aren't any kinks to be worked out :p

I used to run a PC99 Hollow Pin...
Might be a nice concept for the road, but I found that it would load up on dirt. Not only in the hollowed out pins, but the links seemed to collect much more dirt than my PC59. I would clean it, rinse it, and clean it again and it would still sound like I just dragged it across a beach.
I ended up ditching it for the 59 and am happy so far :)
Edit: The Sram triggers look good...Maybe I'll try them out when my XTR stuff gives up the ghost.

I think we mean kinks with the rapid fire...I still won't buy grip shift :)
I have a pre-hollow pin PC99... it was the top of the line chain before the hollow pin design came out. It works great, doesn't seem to load up with dirt either.

They just look like an updated version of their older ones. If they work the same I believe they will have the same problem as the older ones. The thing riders did not like was the fact that the thumb shifter most be pushed down rather then forward. That is the biggest complaint rides had.

I second that, yaaaaaaaay! Yeeeeehaaaa!
SRAM rock. The best.
One thing p1sses me big time. I look up and down my bike and one thorn, one boil on the a$$, one turd of a component bugs me - I still have a Sh1tano front der.
Just kidding. I think:(
Im confused, havent they made 9.0 shifters before? I just saw them recently, 2002 model.

Funny thing, I just picked up an old issue of Mountain Bike, and started reading, it had a review of the SRAM trigger shifters in it.
I think that the issue was from August or September of 2001, is this a two year wait for this product? Did they delay release until some bugs are ironed out? In the review, they did bemoan the fact that the triggers didnt opperate in the same fasion as Shimano's did, and also the amount of force required made shifting difficult.
It would be cool if they had fixed the amount of force, but the fact that its 1:1 ration, maybe thats the reason? With a 2:1 ratio like shimano, you do have that mechanical advantage, but this should be easily overcome with a little engineering.
Only time will tell.
Yea, the trigger shifters have been out for a while, but I think this is the new and updated version.
Bokkie- I hear ya... I've still got an XT front derailler. I got it for like 15 bucks though, and it does it's job, so I really can't complain. If it ever breaks I will seek out a different type.. but front deraillers aren't something you break very often. I also have XT hubs.. but other than that my bike is devoid of Shimano componentry :o
By the way... how are those XO shifters working out for you?

if these shifters are anything like there past shifters, I wouldn't even get close to them. sram has had bad luck with trigger shifters.

I love my grip shift setup I can't see going back to trigger shifters.
I HATE twisty shifties. I despise them about as much as I do the new intgrated shift / brake levers. Let the rodies play with that garbage I want some thing where I can replace one or the other
Does anyone know if these shifters work with Shimano FDs?
Don't believe so Chi, I think they work only with SRAM rear ders
Yes, they work with Shimano front deraillers.

Chi,SRAM apparantly made a "gemini" trigger shifter for 2:1 ratio rear derailers, it is possible that they still do, or still will, But I havent found any info so far, if I do find out, Ill post on it.
Scoob
Until SRAM makes a FD, I guess we're stuck with using our old Shimano parts. This is why I'm wondering whether the new shifters use 2:1 ratios for the left hand shifter. I have no wish to get gemini shifters since I am not planning on replacing my STX group with new Shimano parts.
Speaking of which, my GF's Raleigh is in need of new drivetrain ... :D

They're the best, jim311. Positive gear changes and really smooth though they are most forgiving if I mis-time the change. Having switched to twisters I will never go back to triggers. I like the short grip on the twister and that makes it very difficult to change by accident. The original LX shifters I had were very easy to change by accident. I still love to look at the XO rear mech. It is a thing of beauty.
10/10 to SRAM.
ooooooo Donner, nog a exodoos from SA mannetjie in england. waaar woon jy bokkie?
I use the New Dual Control Xtr set up with Rapid Rise. Wonderful stuff. shift is slower than SRAM but more positive and more accurate. Between XTR and X.0 there is no performance advantage (I've used both) it just depends on whether you want to twist or shuffle.
But the Shimano get smy Nod every time. You can find spares in any corner of the world......................ok not Duel control yet since it's only XTR at the moment, but every bike shop stocks Shimano. Not something I can say for SRAM.
the have them here...

but not for sale online. all the grip shift sets are for sale online, (i know this is little bit of an anti shimano thread, but..) none of the shimano parts are for sale online. whats the point of having e-commmerce if you're not gonna sell anything?

We live in Crawley, south of Gatwick, south of London. Close enough to the big city to be far enough away, but too close to bugger all at the same time. Local rides around here can be frustrating to get to because of the traffic and being inbetween the North and South Downs means there are lots of hills. We have some nice forest rides locally, not all out speed jobs but some very interesting technical stuff to make it challenging.
sounds lovely :-)
I'm up in Chester, in the North West. About 1 hour away from Betws-y-coed and 2 from Coed-y brenin. Both lovely trails. Drop me PM if you ever come up this way. I take you on the marin Trail. Be sure to bring a Small camera with. The scenery is awesome......................if it isn't raining that is...
timb - I'll bear that in mind. I have the idea to do the Coed- trails as I believe the international mb organisation that rates trails has put them up there amongst the best in the world for organisation, management, and sheer riding pleasure. You are a lucky vis, boet. Enjoy those mountains.
Kak weer vir a braai, eh?
ya lekker kak water en vuur kom nie goed oor die weg nie
