I just want to ask what is the benefit(s) of installing brakes(rear) on the inner side of the seatstay.

I d on't see any benefits.
They are harder to reach for cleaning, adjustments, pads replacement as well as the caliper has nothing to lean against, compared to ones on the other side...

Bikes are hard to improve. From 1840s... a lot of time passed.

I've fitted the rear brake on my rain /winter bike (nearly finnished ) , to enable the pannier rack to fit better , it seems to work just as well :)

They work better when you ride backwards.

Brakes mounted on the inside of the brake bridge
are seen on time trial bikes and were also
a hallmark of mid to late 80's aerodynamic bikes.
For an excellent example see a Cinelli Lazer
or Colnago Oval CX.

I'm attaching pic of Cinelli, brake can't be seen
but its in front of wheel between chainstays.

It supposedly gave a slight aero advantage, and
when the difference between win and place is hundreths
of a second any adavantage helps.

Do not do it as the force of the wheel is against the frame thus it may cause the brakes to bend or worse.

Some companies made the fronts like this as the force pushes against the fork. That was always a good thing.

Sometimes it is does to solve reach problems on very large frames, there is a big(63) Havnoonian(sic?) that comes in here set up that wayif you swap the brake around it won't reach the rim.
Lotec, have any of the enclosed aero Campy brakes laying around? Not only did they improve your aerodynamics but their ineffectual stopping power kept you from scrubbing any speed off.

I actually fit them that way because the cable was much smoother that way. I had a weird kink if I put them on behind the seatstays.

I didn't think about the large frame aspect, come to think
of it I have seen large HH frame built like that.
You mean Campy Deltas? really sexy looking, crappy braking?
nah, I just can't see spending the big bucks for them.
Someone on CR list recently tried to ride bike with
Modolo Kronos brakes, wonderful looking, light, do absolutely
nothing towards stopping a bike. I would be too scared of
crashing that 72 masi gran criterium to ride them!

Keep in mind that whoever installed the brake may not have known what they were doing and installed it the wrong way.

Just 2 days ago, I saw a mountain bike at the local store. It was of the inexpensive type. The front suspension fork was actually installed backwards. Sure, the rider would simply have to loosen the stem and spin it around. However, I found this to be quite amusing.

Something else to keep in mind is that many people have weird and off-the-wall ideas about what will increase performance. While some ideas are great ideas, many either pose no advantage or are actually counter-productive.

Unless you have a good reason to switch the brake around, I'd put it back to the way it is suppose to be.

Yeah, I work at the LBS and some lady came in a while ago with a bike she had just purchased the day before from a local department store. It was a Magna or something and she had a flat. What she didn't notice was that the fork was installed backwards and she had been riding it like that. I know the people who work at those stores don't know about bikes, but you would at least think they could get that right.

Lotek, I struggled with those things until I finally realized it was not me, they are pretty but they just don't work. The trophy wife of brakes.
Not to defend the department store guys, but a Skareb looks like it is on backwards at first glance.
