I'm riding with a group of people on a 2 day STP this year. We've decided it'd probably be nicer to split up a decent motel room than sleep in some high school gym or whatever.

Looks like there are 3 main rendevouz points where your bags can be sent:

1. In Centralia @ the 102 mile stop point

2. In Chehalis @ the 107 mile stop point

3. In Vader @ the 128 mile stop point

Ideally we'd like to stay near the stopping point, and have some ammeneties like restaurants/bars within walking distance of the place we stay.

Anyone have any lodging suggestions?

Thanks
-Sean

Motel rooms are hard to come by this late, you'll be lucky to get one, but Centralia has the most rooms. Nothing in Vader but camping as I recall. Call or go online today to try to get a reservation.

I would think that the lodging choices in Chehalis/Centralia are getting to be pretty slim. However, I think you would still be able to find plenty of choices in Lacey/Olympia/Tumwater. The downside is that you'll be 20-25 miles from the midpoint of the ride.

Or just camp in Centalia, the Nazarine Church has a nice package with breakfast.

Smurf Hunter,
A few days ago, I looked in the Yellow Pages for all the two-bit, no-tell/motels and found NONE that had openings. STP is 9000 riders strong + family/friends/support. I'm staying at a church (St. Johns, Chehalis) $50.00 for 2 meals, showers (towel provided), air mattress, and a roof. GOOD LUCK! jeff

Part of my group is happy to "indoor camp" in a Church someplace (I'm in that group), while the rest want to have support cars drive them back north to Lacey for a comfy nights rest. I think it's a bit silly to "drive" back 30 miles just, but we'll wait and see how the dynamic of this large group will shake out.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Bethel Church in Chehalis has a large gym type facility for indoor camping. $45 includes pasta dinner, breakfast, hot showers, and secure bike storage. Massages are available for extra. My sister in law works at the church and they have been hosting STP riders for years. The church is at exit 72/Rush Rd. south of town, next to McD's.

We were in the same boat - couldn't find a room anywhere - and our family is the private type (no B&B's here). Finally decided to take the 5th wheel down and camp....makes for some more jockeying around - but we'll have a good night's rest! :-)

Be careful of the church/school option; snoring and coughing and other sounds that echo in a gym or other large room are more prevalent than you think. (Earplugs aren't that good at filtering out the noise). Opt for a tent and pitch it on the school/church yard instead.

You got that right. Last year some dude snored the whole night. The only break anyone got from it was every so often he would just stop breathing for a few minutes.

A sleeping bag on the lawn works great :)

Suck it up, ride it in one day, and you'll have plenty of rooms to choose from in Portland!

i live in longview and you have a few choices that arent tooo far off the path. and dont forget Castle Rock abou 12 miles north of longview but i think they have only one motel. then there is Kelso right next door and they have a few to choose from. Or you could cross the the bridge to Ranier, but i cant recall a motel its a rather small town.

I'm doing the two day STP and plan to ride to Winlock the first day. My FIL has a Thousand Trail membership, so I'm staying at the preserve in Chehalis. They have mostly camping sites, but a few cabins and trailers - we managed to reserve a cabin.

From Winlock it's only about a 20 mile backtrack up the road to Chehalis.

I'll be resting my weary legs in the hot tub Saturday night.:D

To benefit our 4-H Club we are providing housing in our private home for the 3rd year. We always have return guests who comment how staying with us was the highlight of their trip. We have an actual full size bed available ($75 per person) as well as air mattresses and cots ($65 per person). Unfortunately we just had some cancellations and these have become available. You would stop at our business in Chehalis which is right on the STP route where you would keep your bike and we would transport you to and from our home which is just ten minutes away. We provide shower & linens, dinner, breakfast & snacks. You will be well cared for. Feel free to call me at 360.880.2423 if you are interested and I can send you additional information. TNTMasons@peoplepc.com is my email as well.
