Touring - How to Find Tour Buddies?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey guys,
Besides this forum and adventure cycling, whats other good places to find touring buddies.
OK, I'm doing one myself starting June1st from LA, across the US in ~45 days. Heading to Europe, across Europe through Central Asia, then into South East Asia home to Malaysia. Looking for buddies for any portion of trip. 65-85 miles a day.
Caution: Dad (60, but lives like hes 45) wants to join for the rest of the way starting Eastern Europe in car/truck/motorcycle. I hang out great with him and other folks old enough to be a 24 year olds dad... And also everyone else between ages 0 and 200.
Also looking to start making weekend rides in the Carolina region to get used to it and to ready up on equipment. Buddies wanted too. 60-75 miles a day.

Let it happen naturally. You will meet people who are moving in the same direction as you and will stay with them for a few days, or maybe even a few weeks.

That's exactly what I was just about to say. Good advice.

You will meet people, but if you want, check out Lonely Planet's forum, The Thorn Tree. Travelers of all shape, sizes, and means over there.
And find buddies (and/or a bed) with www.warmshowers.org (http://www.warmshowers.org).
And if you ride Amsterdam - (Hannover) - Berlin, maybe the EuropaRadweg 1, let me know, for support, a shower and at least some rides together.

I found partners just by word of mouth for for my cross country trip this year and others are lining up for next year if we do it again. I do set my expectations up front - number of days, no SAG, knowledge of equipment, past backpacking or touring expereience, own a touring bike or willing to invest in one, - I must admitt it's a crap shoot wether our personalities will blend together. Also financial ability to make the trip. I'll let you know in a few months how this random selection worked out.
...and also give quick feed back when you ask a question like this to people who react and might have - at least in their own opinion - some useful ideas. It's part of the morivation to react.

Anyone up for the RAAM 07 route this summer? starting earliest May 28th, which is when I fly into LA from NC.
Trying to make it across in 40-45 days or so, heading to Europe after that, camping all the way.
