Foo - Open letter to Joe Gardner....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Dear Joe,
I've only been a member here since June of 06....but I have witnessed amazing growth of bike forums in that time in addition to my own increased cycling knowledge. Just wanted to say thanks for having this site available. Much happiness to you and Heather. Keep riding, hiking, and doing what you do.

dauphin, kudos to you posting the compliment. I'm sure Joe appreciates it. But there is a forum you could have posted this in where you would not have been picked on by others, or if you were it would not have been as harsh.

Here's mine:
Dear Joe,
You have ruined my life. Before I met you, I had a life. Now I am trapped here on the inter web. Like a horse to water, I return here each day. I can't figure out why. Despite logging onto your forums nearly every day for the last three plus years, I haven't won a darned thing nor have I gotten a date.
Sometimes people hurt my feelings, yet like a little puppy I come back. I look up at the other forum members with my sad puppy dog eyes and usually am met with a kick in the side or some other dog greeting like that.
It's been a couple years now since my wife ran off with some guy. I don't know who he was or what he looked like but I remember his voice. She told me her and "John" (think that was his name) were moving to Reno to manage a trailer park. As she walked out the door she mumbled something about having a nice life with my new love Bike Forums. That is all I remember because I was reading an enchanting story posted my MERTON that was captivating. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
Not long after that, my dog suffered severe burns after an encounter with the fireplace. I heard him yelping, but I was deep in the middle of an argument on the advocacy and safety forums. So ol Shep is gone now, but I am pretty sure that I convinced Helmet Head to ride on the sidewalk. So it was not all for naught.
I thought it couldn't get any worse after ol Shep passed but it did. The foreclosure was final last December and I really hated to see that house go. I could have kept it probably if I wouldn't have lost my job. I did manage to sell enough stuff on ebay to keep the lights and INTERNET turned on. But it didn't last forever.
Now I sit here in the Public Library, wondering where it all went. It seems like just yesterday, I sat down on my computer and searched for Bike + Forums. It was at that moment, that I met this forum created by Joe Gardner. You've saved my life man! I'll never be able to repay you! (BTW, when does my membership run out?)

No Kumbaya, but Kombacha or however it's spelled.
I myself appreciate this forum. I've met a lot of cool people here. Actually, you are ALL cool (with the exception of about 2 people who I don't see eye to eye with). But considering how many people are members here, that's pretty good!
I have formed relationships with people that I would have not met had it not been for BikeForums. Real friendships. People that have come to visit and people that I have visited myself.
Oh, and I learned a lot about bikes here too :o :p :D
Thank you Joe, for all your hard work and for providing us with this wonderful way to connect with others. And thanks to the mods who have volunteered their time to keep this place enjoyable. :)

OMG Portis!!! now you make me think of this letter!!
dear Joe,
thank you for bike forum, I started browsing here from time to time and became a little concern on how much I wanted to return.
I formed frienship and quickly got rid of any real friends i have in real life. ( there was no ignore feature).
my kids do not remember the last time I went out biking with them but i keep reminding them to just log into the family cycling forum you have here. it is safer after all and I do not have to constantly make sure they wore thier helmets.
I was stunned to wake up next to my lap top the other day and find out that my hobby ran away, but it's
all good. I logged on to bf and found some guy who really understand about my races. his name is lancewannabe.
I find myself not really having time to work anymore as posting requires much of my time, I feel like Im really part of a new family and I want to thank everyone in the road forum for showing me the true meaning to cycling.
I am now in dept for 20 thousand dollars but I sure have a lot of nice dura ace pics to shows the guys that i truly belong.
They came and put a foreclosure sign on my house but the library is just as cozy and they serve free coffee and they let me bring my bike in while I log on bf!
thanks again!

Dear Joe,
You should be very proud of yourself and the accomplishments you have made. I think most people here are glad to have this outlet in which they can talk, joke and exchange ideas. You know how much I appreciate you in every other way as well. I guess I just wanted to jump in and say I love you. :)
I don't really care if anyone calls me a suck up. You're not my teacher, and you're definitely not grading me on anything. If you are, then well, gawdammit, I'll be pissed. :p
Thanks for always being there, thanks for making me laugh, and thanks for being you.
Love,
Heather

Well I can't top the last one, however coming from a guy who has very little time to browse thru the forums I still manage to find time to read quite a few posts ... and occasionally get in a quick reply once in a while. Definitely has become one of my main Internet favorites. Thanks Joe for all your effort.

Dear Joe,
Thank you for providing this totally awesome place where we can all hang out. This is a great place for talking to friends, and finding any bike related info I need (I almost forgot this is a bike website!). I have spent many nights awake surfing BF when I should have been sleeping or doing homework. If I drop out of school, I will totally blame it on BikeForums! (just kidding! :p)
Hugs and kisses (ok, maybe that's a little much :o),

Is Joe old enough to know who Julie Newmar is because I'm 37 and I don't have a clue. I have heard her name but that is it.
Julie Newmar was the first "Cat Woman" on the original Batman tv shows. At least I think she was the first. I'm 37 too and if I was a betting man, I'd wager Joe is much younger than us.
