View Full Version : How was your weekend?
It was gorgeous! I hope everyone got a chance to ride. I was able to get 22 mi. up here in the north end on saturday (portion of the Morgul Bismark loop, the wall). Then a nice flat route down south on sunday for 30 mi.:D I really enjoyed the southern route because the speeds stayed really high. Avg was, I'm guessing, 20 mi. with lots of turns in the trail. Made it feel like you were really rocking.
Anyway, that's my weekend. I hope yours was just as enjoyable. This place is getting quiet again. MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!:D

I spent Saturday cleaning the house for an assessor to visit Sunday. Sunday I took the kid to his grandma's house using the bike. Something like 10 miles each way.
I wrecked on sand Friday morning so all this was accomplished with 2 sprained wrists, road rash on my right knee, and about 10+ other scrapes and bruises. The only major part of my body that escaped wounding was my head. :p
Yikes Data glad your okay.
I did road ride with boyfriend on Saturday (he finally got road bike even though its a single speed) :) We did 30mi, yesterday rode Green Mountain (mtbike) with girlfriend and it was a great time. :)
It was an wonderful weekend and I really enjoyed being outside.

Well, let's see.. Saturday I was out with the dogs and saw a 1 buffalo stampede. He came down the hill from my condo complex and across the park where we were, stopped to check us out before continuing on his way.
Sunday I did about 65 miles with Hypoxia (Lariat Loop plus some) ... Good ride, except for the part where we had a rider go down at around 35 mph. Road rash and I'm sure he's sore today, but he did finish the ride.
Man, sounds like a bad weekend for some of ya. Glad everyone is ok. I don't think I'm ready for 65 of anything yet. You are Superman BM.
Looks like rain for the weekend but we'll see. *crosses fingers

Let's see...Saturday, I got bagels, went to Wheatridge Cyclery but couldn't get my part ("We only carry Ultegra and above, sir."), got my clock from the shop (a early 1900s German Box that needed a new main spring) and did some other unmemorable stuff.
Sunday: Hung a double swinging door that's been off the hinges since I got new hinges (Do put in a double swing door unless you absolutely have to! ), looked at front doors which would have to be cut down from 36" to a nonstandard 33" or have a $2000 custom one made ("Um. Sure, honey. Let me put it on the list after making the drawers for the hutch, painting the woodwork for the swinging door and making bookshelves for the basement.), took the door off and shimmed and rehung it so that it was hanging straight, and went to the Mayan and saw "The Host"...a thoroughly hilarious monster movie from Korea. Think the Royal Tanenbaums vs Gozilla.
Oh well, I least I get to ride to work.;)

Thanks snowy. :)
I would like to rephrase my comment about not hurting my head. :p
Obviously I must have hurt it sometime in the recent past. Last week was the third week in a row I have managed to injure myself. ugh
I swear I am going to hang a sign in my home office that they use in industrial workplaces.
Accident free since March 16th. :p
p.s. I hate hanging double doors. :p

*** damn sand! It took me down in my first ever wipeout exactly three weeks ago, ...and I am using semi-knobby 26x2.125" tires! My hands still carry mementos.

Saturday I ran in the St. Patrick's day 5-mile race. Missed my goal of completing 5-miles in 40 minutes by just 3 minutes, but considering I had to make an emergency bathroom stop at the end of the first mile I was pleased with the result (I know what you're going to say, rookie mistake! Go to the bathroom before the race, but I actually did go to the bathroom before the race, apparently I really needed to go once I started running). Then after the race I met up with my riding buddy and did 15 miles (started to snow on us and the temperature dropped 10* so we cut the ride short).
Then on Sunday I went for what was supposed to be just a nice spin, but ended up being a pretty brisk 24 miles. Really put the hurt on my legs.
Today I finally got my 20 mile recovery ride in, and my legs are feeling pretty good.

I know what I am doing this coming up weekend! Hunting for a new saddle. :(
I cracked the plastic underside widthwise. No riding for me.
Allergies have kicked in and I am still sore from last Fridays ground density check. Someone please hit me over the head with a hammer!

My allergies are passable now but still exhausting. This is the only part I can not stand related to spring. I wonder if my boss would mind if I napped at my desk. :p

Honestly, if you want to try one I got one you can borrow. They're a lot more comfortable then they look.

I bought an Arione on sale @ Performance about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if they're still on sale.
My back was locked-up like a Ryanf thread :p for almost a month, but the last 2 days I've amassed a whopping 10 miles! Hope to go for 20 this weekend.

Hey celticfrost, I was wondering how you've been. Is your back getting better??
Yes, thanks for asking. I tried getting back on the bike a few weeks ago, but just ended up making things worse. I'm still pretty weak (i.e., my legs shake when I walk down the stairs), but I'm trying to ease into things a few miles at a time. Not being able to enjoy the weather is killing me, but I'm hoping to be as good as new in a week or so!

Yeah, still sore, but getting better. Sunshine took me to the E.R. Sunday night (thanks Sunshine! I owe you girl!). Cat-scan & x-rays showed no major injuries. I got on the trainer last night and was able to spin without much pain. Actually walking is much worse than spinning.
I also installed my new Dura-Ace rear der on the Trek, so hopefully, my next ride will not be so "eventful."
It was a great ride around the Lariat Loop. :D

Maybe it wasn't the weekend but the last 2 day, I finally went out to the memorial park a little bit west of where I live and work. There is a small lake with a 1.4 mile sidewalk loop around it and I had fun just riding around the lake just watching others walk their dog, play with their kids at the playground, some feedings the birds and whatnot (even saw a elderly lady playing around with a squirrel  ). This must have been the most I have had biked (My best guess is around 10-12 miles the last 2 days) but I am not sore at all! Is this normal? (just wondering cause when I first started, I've been sore all of the time).
My only issue is that seeing all of the good bikes riding around fills me with envy :D
P.S. How come we don't have something like a "biking on a budget" forum for peoples like me who can't afford almost all of the bikes in the bike shops and whatnot?

Yep, that was me. My own fault and a VERY dumb error in judgment for which I am paying the price. I am just happy that I didn't take anyone else out with me. I am told I was unconscious for 2-3 minutes and down for 5. Honestly I don't remember anything between the time my head hit the pavement and my fellow riders were helping me up off of the road.
THANK GOD for my helmet! It saved me, BIG TIME. And BMC, bro, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, get a helmet and use it on every ride!
One of my fellow Hypoxians took the following photo just after. The RR goes much higher up my back and down my right side. Some other spots as well. Sure looks worse now than it did there. And wearing clothes is an experiment in pain at this point.. :O

It's not unusual to NOT be sore. But you can always just ride a ton if you really feel the need :) . The important thing is that it sounds like you're having fun.

Another cursed CO rider chiming in. Yup, I too went down two weeks ago on Deer Creek. Probably 30mph through a corner, lost it instantly on some gravel, slid for a ways until my head stopped me at a guard rail post. My frame was destroyed, but I've since purchased a replacement, swapped components, and have actually set a new PR going up that hill. Beginning to understand the phrase "turning the pedals in anger..."

Oh no.. glad that you're relatively OK.
I think I posted a Deer Creek/ Turkey Creek route in the Denver Group Ride thread, but when I scouted those roads about a month ago, they were treacherous indeed!
