So yesterday my hubby and I went to see wild hogs,It's about a few middle aged men who decide to go on a road trip to escape thier rather boring live.

Beside being funny, both my hubby and I said to each other at the same time " I want to go on a road trip!"

I told him, fat chance:p he has been on many trips by himself, told him it's my turn.

I'm really seriously thinking of packing up my bike and going on a road trip this summer for a few days, maybe with my long time partner in crime ( my girlfriend)
It would be the first time I actually go somewhere withought my kids or hubby in 20 years.
I need that, I really want to do this!

Had any thoughts on that yet?

Sounds cool BDG - now what you should do is go somewhere warm when it is cold up there...

BDG. A car will get one further on that much needed road trip. About doing a road trip on the bike. Camp fires with fellow cyclists seem more communial instead of some physically, warm, but otherwise, cold hotel room.

I have two suggestions:

Spring - Shenandoah Valley

Summer - Finger Lakes

This summer it will have been 31 years since I went on my little cyclo-touring adventure in the Finger Lakes. My friend and I didn't work out the logistics really well. We didn't take enough cash, and my not being 18 yet was problematic when we checked into the 1st campsite. :o It was a fun ride, and we picked a camp that was right on a really nice creek with little waterfalls and swimming holes. I'm hoping to persuade my son to go on one there with me in 2008.

Been thinking about doing something similar myself. Toying with either a loaded bike tour of the SE or a long @$$ hike up the Appalachian Trail. Just myself and the great outdoors.

If you decide to do it, I wish you loads of fun and adventure.

thanks, something very appealing about the open road, options, no agenda, just a plain adventure.

Lancaster, PA perhaps - without the boxers please. :p

I do those kind of trips every year, they are my min-vacations, like Lancaster will be this year, as well as RAIN. Pack the bike and drive, drive without the bike, or load up the bike and leave the car at home. ;)

Michigander choose a great spot at Grand Haven. I know that beach anywhere. A great spring trip I recall. The smell of Thomasville , GA with it's spring bloom. Or Ashville, NC area. The Smokies are truly magnificient in April/May. The faces of the mountains covered with rhododendrum, I think it was. . sp?

+1. I have two spare rooms here, BDG. And some good ridin': flats, hills, and mountains, all within decent drive times. Plus a TT that you could possibly ride in, depending on when you're here. :D <holding carrot on stick>

Last road trip I was part of had nothing to do with cycling. It was a two month long road trip we all did since we were currently out of school, and had enough money in the bank to not worry about a summer job.

Just me, two of my buds, and my bud's "girlfriend" (I use it loosely, since they were both in denial...they were hooked up...they just couldn't face the music...punks :p ).

We were all loaded up in my Regal, and we put some ungodly miles on that thing...pretty much we started in Indiana, ende dup in Virginia, then went down to Arkansas, then back up. It was a blast.

None of our mothers were very fond of the idea especially mine, since she knows I can be a load of trouble. She realized I was old enough to make my own bad decisions, and we had the means at the time to deal with it (we each had about $3000 in our checking accts).

It was actually pretty inexpensive. We stayed in tents at various campsites, ate at whatever unique places we could find...and in general goofed off to a level that we could not do anywhere else. Gas wasn't too bad on the car, it got about 25 highway (damn good for a car with a 3-speed auto and a V6).

how about I start in one state, go collect another bf'er who then tags along to the next state, pick another one up or more and this becomes a GIANT road trip! we do that till we hook everyone up and realise we all lost our jobs :D :D

Best road trip I was on was in college. Me and my cuz had $250 between us and we drove to Florida and hung out for a week. It was awesome.

I love road trips, and I still do 3 or 4 a year. Just got back from my road trip to Moab, planning my next one to New Mexico and Colorado in May. Last time I did this wonderful road trip from Oregon to NM and Colorado I met up with Snowy, Telenick and others for the Santa Fe century, a VERY fun time. I'll be off all summer, so who knows where I'll end up, the only plan so far is the San Juan Islands of Washington and Vancouver Island for as long as I can.

Great memories of interesting people and fun encounters along the way, road trips are the BEST!

Road trips are great. Here's a summary of a cross country road trip I took in 2003. Since it would take up multiple posts at maximum post length, I'll include it as an attachment.

Closest thing to a real road trip was about 20 years ago. A couple of buddies and I decided to jump in a Blazer and go to Las Vegas for New Years. Drove straight there but made a couple of stops at the Petrified Forest and the Grand Canyon on the way home.

If you go to Lancaster by way of the PA turnpilke, you'll have to bike the 15 or so miles of abandoned turnpike, (28 mile round trip). You'll go through 2 abandoned tunnels. Starts in Breezewood. Bring lights.

The Breezewood exit off of the turnpike is a 3 mile drive. Right before you hit rt 30, look to your right, that is the old TP leading about 4 miles to the first tunnel. Make a right on 30 and park in the hotel lot. Keep going and you'll hit the other tunnel.

Go for it. Where ever you go have a great time. Be sure to swim naked at midnight or something.

I went for a road trip on my motorcycle to the beaches of Cape Cod, Right after seeing the first "Jaws" movie.
As I sat on the beach watching the people, and a dog splashing in the water, I felt just like I was in the calm scene right before one of the attacks. I expected everyone to start screaming and running from the water.

Several on the Harley. Usually head through Utah to my buddies parents house in Mt Pleasant. Been from there to Moab, Reno, central Oregon, Columbia River Gorge. Next year was through Colorado, Wyoming, South and North Dakota, Montana and Idaho then back to Washington. Nothing like pulling up to Mt Rushmore on the Harley. We generally stick to smaller roads and off the interstates unless we want to make a bunch of time.
Actually just got back from one in the car. Had training in San Diego and made a road trip out of it. Down throught the Bay Area, San Diego, Yuma, Las Vegas and Reno before back home. One of these days I'll get MYSPACE going and put all the trip pictures up.
If you've never had and buddy road trip, do it!
