I registered for this ride back in March and will do the 70 miler. I also remember that ME and Joel wanted to make this into a century from Sherman Oaks, if so let me know.

Is the registration packet mailed to everyone? I have not received anything from them and I regestered through active.com.

no you register on site....

Just got an email from the "First Annual San Fernando Valley Bicycle Club Family Picnic"; it on the same date (June 10th) so 70 miles are out of the question for me (and probably many of the SFVBC).
What time the river ride starts? (I can't find it on the flyer/registration). The Picnic is from 3:30 to dusk, so I assume it can be a complete bicycle day... Taking the kids in the mornning to cycle and in the after noon to Picnic with cyclists.

yeah that was bad planning...
I already paid so I am riding....but you should be able to finish 70 by 1..starts at 8 and its flat!!!

I'm sorry, Herb, but trying to ride the Wheelman trainer and the LA river ride is too much. Plus, I have plans in the evening and I don't want to be worn out! :o

I am going to do a short ride earlier that day (the sunday level-1 with SFVBC; ~25 miles) and then take my son & his friend (6.5 years old) for the 1 mile kids route just to make the family more into cycling...
That same day at 3:30PM the SFVBC have their frist annual picnic. The day will be full of activies all serrounding my hobby :-)

Well I think it is flatter than SGRT....you are coming from the beach so there is some elevation...maybe 1000-1400ft across 35 miles..
A couple of rollers...usualy underpasses...nothing major...

Hope to see lots of BF'ers out there tommorrow!!

I am detouring at the end of the bike path at Fletcher...mark and I are regrouping there...
I am going to turn right, then left onto riverside....I just had my wheels trued and no way I riding that 2.5 mile wannabe bike path...
so we can meet there if we dont get to each other at the start..obviously, Jack will be WAY ahead!:D

I hope to see you and Kristine, and many other BF members. I'll be the old bald guy wearing a Wildflower Century jersey. Looks like the weather's going to be great!

How can they see that you're bald with your helmet on?

Hmm. Good point. Maybe that's why I ride so much? 'Course, with my sunglasses on they won't be able to see how baby blue my eyes are, either.

Well....last ditch entry here, I decided to ride the 70 about 2 minutes ago!
5 of us (coworker, friend, wife and brother) said we'd do it but as usual I'm the only one doing it...these days riding solo is a relief ;-)

Rode the LA River Ride today. Nice turn out, saw some BF jerseys out there.
Stats: 70 miles/3h55m We rode past the jail housing Paris, lots of press there as we rolled through yelling "free Paris". Decent SAG food, (anyone wondering why have a saddle bag...I collected enough Cliff Shot Bloks etc to recoup my entrance fee!...yeah I'm cheap like that ;-) ) Ride captain Daryl Hanna was really hot in person, she hasn't changed much. They said it was a record turn out...maybe like 2000 people. Cloudy till 10:40, then nice and sunny but not too hot for the rest. Nice flat, well organized ride. I liked it!
And here's some pics:
