General Cycling Discussion - I'm a graduate!

I'm so happy that I have to tell everyone: I'm graduating from college tomorrow, and I just got done with my last final! I even have a job!

My family is herenow, and I'll be home in a week. For my graduation gift, I'm buyng myself a bike! Congratulations to all the other 2003 graduates on the forum, you deserve it. Life is good.

Congratulations on finishing your education, getting a job, and most of all purchasing a bike.

I will be working at a pharmacy chain (think Walgreen's) called Hi-School Pharmacy. Forty stores in the Portland, OR area, and I'll be programming the computers. I did an internship there and everyone loved me so much they asked me to come back.

The commuting routes are laid out, I even have a backup. I'm looking forward to it.

Following some advice, I'll be sprucing up my mountain bike with new wheels and brakes, but the new bike will likely be a road bike. I may be touring a bit this summer, so I'm keeping that in mind.

i finished my undergrad in August 1994...

the first few years out i learned a lot about life and such --- how most people live really boring lives and i didn't/don't want to... (sounds synical but it's true!)

don't join the materialism race and waste your life trying to "beat the Jones" --- e.g. what not to do: i bought all the things i had wanted for so long as a poor student (new car, nice stereo, fancy apartment, computer, etc.) and was then in debt! (i fixed that in 1996 and paid off everything including student loans by beginning of 1998!)

take some chances, travel, try lots of things... have fun!

working life can be OK too, but nothing well ever be quite like the College Years... (even as a grad student it was different as you're older)

I may not have graduated from college YET, but I did graduate from high school last Saturday. I will be off to college at MTSU in August congradulations on graduating.

Wise advice. I learned that lesson a few years after I graduated. Don't get me wrong, I still like nice things. I've just learned to appreciate what I have...especially loved ones. Keeping up with the Jones is often hard to avoid, especially in the bike world!!

Congrats on the degree! :beer: I've just finished my Master's, but it's not quite the same level of satisfaction as my undergraduate degree. (Only because I've been working for some time now.) Have fun in the real world!! :p
