I might. It's between that and a race in Rock Hill.

Probably only the 22- or 37-mile ride if I do. ;)

Yeah, I had noticed the race in Rock Hill. Probably go watch the Crit on Saturday and maybe the sprints on Fri in York.

I guess the post-ride meal is only for those who do the metric century, eh?

Well, maybe I'll come out ahead of time and ride the 37-mile loop and see how badly that kicks my patootie. If it's ok, maybe I'll try the metric. Did I just say that? <cough, cough>

Post ride meal for all. Does not matter how far you ride. We are talking about riding some of the route, mostly the part through Kings Mountain Park and the climb up around Kings Pinnacle. Not sure which weekend we will try this. Let you know when we do decide to try route.

^^^ Yeah, let us know. I'd like to join, if I can, and you wouldn't mind.

I just have one question.............why did they post the cue sheet for those who may jump in but did not pay for the ride? I have never seen an event post the cue's except being handed out day of ride. Just a question and it sounds like a great ride. Not much climbing and would be fun.

Everyone who rides is given a bib. Anyone seen on the route without is shot on sight.

j/k Don't know. But it's a good cause.

Sub,

More than welcome to join if you do not mind going slow ..... rode 21.5 miles last night after work. Felt good at times and terrible at others. We did a loop that included Alexis High Shoals and the two hills that are included just east of Philadelphia Church Road (we were headed west). The total route had around 1500 feet of total climbing and we averaged just under 15mph. I am still working on leg strength and getting use to my double crank on the climbs. Along way to get where I want to be, but making good progress.

That area is on my personal route when I can get out on Saturday by myself. I'm just south of Stanley in North Belmont so I try to get up around the northern part of the county and ride those roads. Not much traffic and pretty good rolling terrain.

Hang in there and keep getting stronger.

I wish. Well, maybe not for the average Joe, but toward the end there are some good climbs.

And I think most that ride this know the route and respect who's doing it. A ton of people show up and mostly members of the Gaston County Cyclists.

 That fast?! Serious. On my usual 20-mile ride, which is fairly flat (only about 300-400' of "climbing"), I'm lucky to average 16mph! On a ride not long ago in Stanly County, I managed 14mph for 1330' of climbing. I either need to put in a lot of miles on hills in prep for this ride and hope I can get my legs in shape, or just expect to get dropped....

That looks like a fun fast ride. I'm scheduled to do the Tour de Cashiers metric that same day or I might drive down. Maybe next year.

Thanks, sub. I'll look 'em up.

I do want to start splittin' time between Gaston and Stanly. There is an excellent place in Stanly for hill repeats that I'd like to hit once a week. Do intervals and one-legged spinnin' on my trainer one day a week, and the rest just gettin' in base miles on hilly terrain, spinnin' up hills here and hammerin' up there. I'm so far behind on base miles, I hesitate to get too hot and heavy into more intense training, but do feel that ridin' hilly terrain (vs the relatively flat terrain in my immediate vicinity) can only make me stronger. I want to kick some women's Cat 4 patooties by the end of the season.... :D

Dang. Just realized that if I'm gonna be in the Rock Hill Omnion, I can't do this ride. :(

But I could ride on some of the practice rides. Let me know, too, warrenl, if you guys do that ride in your post #6. :)

VV-In Stanley County-have you ridden Millingport (eastbound) Old Mill, Dusty, Flint Ridge, and Biles by chance? Very nice climbs all within a very short distance of each other. They are a little west of Albemarle. They're long enough and steep enough to really get the HR up.

VegaVixen

No, but I did ride the route for the 3/24 race. I seem to recall that Millingport is "busy" compared to the other roads....

I'll be sure to check those roads out, though. Do you live in Stanly County, jppe? Or are you just a glutton for punishment like me? :D
