I'm wondering if it's possible to clean the dull whitish buildup on my Daytona cranks. I recently cleaned my chain with one of those machines -- first time for that, I've always used toothbrushes before -- and then lubed with white lightning -- first time using that product, too.

The buildup was caused either by the citrus degreaser, the white lightning or the mild dish soap I used to clean the frame.

Any ideas on how to get my cranks back to their shiney selves?

Try some deisel oil , WD-40 or kerosene and an automotive parts cleaning brush or paint brush. The citrus will work but not as well. Ditch the white lightning and try some Pro Link. Stay away from any polishes because the abrasives in them will wear away the aluminum anodising causing worse finish problems.

I'm with Pat on this one. I use WD 40 to clean alloy components on my bikes and on the swing arm and frame of my motorbike.

Just don't let it get near any oiled/greased bearings!
