Pacific Northwest - Cycling in the rain?

So...it's raining right now...hard...and I want to cycle! This would be my first day since owning the bike not going for a few miles at least.....any do's or don'ts? Stuff I should know about cycling in the rain? Road cycling that is...bike care, traction issues, etc...thanks!

Don't lean too much in the turns or the bike will slide out from under you, keep your weight centered on the top tube. Clean up the bike after the ride, I use the little clip on fenders, helps keep you dryer.

I've got a decent rain shell (jacket/pants) that I plan on wearing....any after-care for the bike besides a clean up? WD-40 a good idea or bad idea on moving parts?

I'd say no on the WD40, just clean off the gritty stuff from the chain. I never use WD40, it leaves an awful sticky film on things, and picks up and keeps dirt, get a good chain lube from the bike store and use that.

Maybe also wipe the crap off the rims if you have rim brakes? It's easy when they're wet. :D

So, I went on that ride, and it was AMAZING! I was soaking wet the whole time, never cold though...some good climbs, made some more adjustments to my left cleat (knee pain) and saddle hight/position...still trying to get all that dialed in.

I rode out from Troutdale, East up the columbia river highway, through corbett, and onto Evans road towards bull run. Probably about 45 miles round trip.

Wiped the bike down, no WD-40, drained the huge amount of water that accumulated inside the frame...heh...bike looks great! I have a free adjustment coming in the next week, we'll see what they say.

Rode home from work yesterday around 4 ish and got soaked but man the shower afterward feels great. thank God carbon does not rust.

Tap your brakes often to keep the rims and brake pads dry (well, as dry as possible)

Soaking rain this morning on the 2 1/2 hour zone 2 ride - plus a good bit of wind. BUT, it is a pleasure riding when the temp climbs above 50 degrees - after a winter of 40 degree rain rides this felt almost tropical!
