I came across this article in a newspaper from my home town. Talk about an inspiration!

great story.
i surf as well as cycle, and recently caught a show on PBS called surfing for life. it was about a bunch of older folks in hawaii who still surf. one guy was either 89 or 91, and still goes out surfing, was a neat show if you get a chance to see it.

o and every one of them surfed a heck of a lot better than i can :)

I don't care how old I am when I go, as long as I'm living life until the end. You're either living or dying. Here's a guy who lived his whole life. Very inspirational.

What a great story!! On Memorial Day, I'll be riding with a relative 'youngster', he just turned 80, but he is, in my opinion, a marvelous rider. He knows his limits, and rides right to them. And, you smile the whole time you ride with him. I hope I can still do what he can at that age!

At 95 I will be riding my Cinelli wheelcahir around "the home". Of course, it will have full Campy with Continental tubulars.

Kelly Ferrin's book, "What's Age Got to Do With It?" should be an inspiration to all of us.

Awesome story.

Quite honestly, I hope I'm not even alive at that age. However, if I am, I hope to be riding.

If I'm still around I hope I am terrorizing the neighborhood zooming around on my trike at 5-7 mph.

A few years ago I met an “old geezer” on a touring bike, he was on a pilgrimage from Paris to Santiago, he expected to spend six months doing it. I can only hope I am fit enough to go on a cycling tour when I am a geezer and I better get off this computer now and go for a ride and start training for it!

Probably hunched over a set of aero bars, turning a 65t big ring down the side of a mountain. Its the only way to get that kind of speed...

OH! You mean 95 years old...
Heck, in that case, who knows. Hopefully I'm still riding, probably yelling at the damn neighbor kids to get offa my lawn as well.

for me the age really doesn't matter... i mean some people may be really fit but their bodies just wear out and they die at 65... and others sit on their arse and do nothing and live to be 98 sitting in a wheelchair and doing nothing... or you could have some physical problem and keel over at age 45 (cancer, whatever)

for me - i hope to never be so old and decripid that i can't do anything and just sit around (of course maybe if i ever get to that point i might think differently)...

but i hope to be active as long as i can. i think up until 75 could be expected...

my dad turns 60 this year and he just got back from US Indoor Volleyball Nationals in Minneapolis... he's more fit than most guys my age and that's the kind of example i will follow. he'll be at the Outdoor Nationals this summer too (as he has been to both for like the last 10+ years)

so i will just always do what i can and be active and stay in shape. some day, whenever that comes, i may not be able to anymore... but i believe in living life to the fullest. i see so many people at 30 or 35 or 40 who have decided they are "old" and now have a beer belly and don't do anything. how sad. (i'm 32 and most people other than my sport buddies think i am a freak for training and doing so many sports).

while mother nature puts some limits on you, age is mostly a mental thing.

I hope to "live long and prosper." But even if I die before 70, I want to have as many quality years as possible.

My definition of "quality years" are years that I am physically and mentally active. If my body gives out, I'll just modify my definition of "quality years" to include "mentally active" years.
