Merlot, is a type of grape, used to make a red wine that assumes the same name.
He could easily say that his vanity plate is a reflection of the color of his car.
Just like if I were to have "Cherry" as the vanity plate for a cherry-red corvette... that doesn't mean my car, or I for that matter, am a virgin just because the word is also used as a description for thus.

No officer, my truck is Butsex Black, that is what the vanity plates refer too.
