so i heard of some sort of spacer-type pieces than you can put into a 1 1/8" head tube to basically turn it into a 1" head tube (i.e.: use a 1" fork and 1" headset). has anybody used these or heard about them at all? i ride a 1" set up right now but just ordered a new frame with a 1 1/8" head tube, and im hoping to use all of the same components if these things are legit. thanks for any responses!

?????????????????? probably cane creek or chriss king have something like the thing u r looking for. Why do you want to use a 1 inch fork in a 1.1/8 inch frame? ?????

I have never heard of such a thing. If it exists, it is totally obscure.

yeah, thats what it is. but it just sounds kinda sketchy. i was hoping someone knows someone who has them, or has used them.

the only reason i wanna ride a 1" fork and headset is because i already have a 1" fork and headset, so if i can put all of my current components on my new frame, then it will be way cheaper. if i have to buy a new fork and headset i might not be able to get it all together for another month or so.

Chris King make a Devolution headset that allows you to use a 1" headset/fork in a 1 1/8" frame. Chris King products are very burly and should definitely solve the problem in a non-sketchy way.

That said, Chris King headsets cost nearly as much as new fork.

The cheap option is to have 1 1/8" -> 1" shims inserted into your headtube. BETD make a pair. Much cheaper option than the CK route but I would wait to get a testominal before trying.

I would be tempted to just invest the money in a new fork and headset rather than, what in my humble opinion, would be a temporary solution.

It doesn't seem like the CK thing will help you save much money. Buying an expensive part to put an old fork on a frame not made to fit it seems an odd way to save money. Unless it is a very nice fork, I would just look for a reasonably priced 1 1/8" fork and headset.
