90% of every video linked anymore is at Youtube.

Where did we find them before youtube?

Discuss.

I have no idea! I think that Al and Tipper Gore kept them all in a locked shoe box until Bob Youtube, their poolboy at the time found the shoebox in the cabana and decided to somehow put all the neat "movin pichures" on his computer box machine. He called his old high school buddies, Mike Intel and Steve Google and the rest is history.

Same thing I do now, work and ride and have fun going out with friends. I must be one of very few people to not be interested in this phenomon.

Actually, before youtube we seldom saw videos shared as we do now. The ordeal required an host with enough bandwidth allowance, as well as hard drive space which were expensive.

*cue to an old man saying he had to walk to school, uphill and in the snow, both way*

Wow...they need to make an A&E Biography special about that I think. :)

I meant more in terms of finding videos that were linked....not in watching them for entertainment.

It was more of a rhetorical question.

Then I am not sure I understand the difference. I rarely click on a link that has youtube in it. I just don't care enough to go through the hassle of linking off of a site to another one.

What was it supposed to persuade me of exactly?

I mean it used to be somebody would occasionally stumble across a video they wanted to share and post it. People would watch it, blah blah.

Nothing has changed except that links are more frequent and now its nearly always from Youtube. It just seems that stumbling across videos that one thinks is worth sharing happens about 5x more now that Youtube has come along.

Just more of an observation than anything.

It wasn't meant to persuade anybody about anything.

It was just more of an observation about how much more prevalent videos are now with Youtube and what did people think about the phenomenon.

I wont derail anymore (sorry about that BTW) but that kind of goes against the definition of a rhetorical question. Just sayin'. ;)

Seeing youtube has made me reevaluate what I do with my time. I'm reading more books now and I'm applying to grad school.

In practice yes....I think of the base definition of a rhetorical question as one you already know the answer to. I know it is meant to "introspect" on your opinion typically, but that part was not my goal.

Before youtube, there was ebaumsworld, albinoblacksheep, and a whole bunch of other OMFG media! sites.

I know. :)

I have a new one just about ready to release.

Negotiating with a local artist on a du ut des type of agreement. Pro bono was cool at first. But now I'd like to get maybe a t-shirt, autographed DC, or even a pair of tickets to a local show. I'd give them a finished copy of the .WMV file and play on my YouTube account in exchange.

We'll see. :)

Before YouTube many people interacted with other real people in the real world.
