It's now officially spring (at least in the more important hemisphere), so we'll never have to think about snow again, ever.

I concur, Its currently minus 11, cold, its not snowing - but its supposed to sometime during the night hours, and theres still plenty of snow out there right now. Things are looking hopefull however according to the weather network.. maybe even on sunday if things stay the way they are currently forcasted I can take my Marinoni out *crosses fingers*.

Lol - anytime is winter cycling time. I've been snowed on in August in Alberta (that was in the mountains - but I was in AB).

The winter cycling forum just seems to hibernate from may to september (except for a few forays from our Alaskan friends). Once the nights get longer, it just seems to crawl out of its den.

*plugging ears and singing abstractly*

(it's actually -9C here right now and -18 with the 'factor that doesn't matter to cyclists' chill)

The snow has been melting here too, and transforming into a 3" ice layer on the roadside over night!

Maybe you are just stuck in a scene from March of the Penguins 2.

I have to chime in on this one, as it is 65 and sunny, the ride from work only served to rev me up to go out again and just ride, I haven't done that in a few months, but I also know MN, this is just a thaw, April is our snowiest month. My beater still has my Nokians on. I thought of raking the leaves off the new buds poking through the ground, but it would only serve to have them froze in the snow that is on its way.

You bet! Its now the latter part of autumn here and being a semi-newbie roady,...I am now browsing this forum to pick up tips in clothing, layering etc etc etc....

So better keep those tips coming since this antipodean is going to his first cycling winter of discontent! And to think the winter here is not that bad compared to North America:-)

still have snow sitting on the lawn and people are still unable to park properly because of all the snow on the road here.
Bike trails are completely full of slop and are virtually unridable unless you have studded tyres.
Also, what is this "spring" you speak of? In Canada all we have is winter, winter, winter, construction.

Depending on where you live. If you're in Victoria you get the rainy season then the cold rainy season, in SoOn you get winter, winter, Mercury-summer, winter. Here in NS, it's more like winter, spring, winter, summer, winter, fall, summer, winter, spring....

I sick with this year's winter. It's much too long and much too snowy compared to other places. I'm gonna get an airplane ticket and move to Copenhagen. :P

So I can just ignore the 6" of stuff that just fell, and the 12+" that is forecast for this weekend?

Sweet!

I like it because of conversations like this:

Allergy Doctor: Gern, your heart rate is very low.
GB: Actually that's a bit high for me. Got a little cold.
AD: Your blood pressure is perfect.
GB: Well, I ride my bicycle a lot.
AD: Your bicycle? But not lately. It's freezing outside.
GB: I did 32 miles yesterday.
AD: 32? But.....why?

I rode home in 5 inches of fresh powder just last night (Good Friday). The city has run out of road salt. That's a good thing for us cyclists. Instead of the usual slippery slush, I was riding on nice hard chunks of snow that had been thrown up by the car tires. It was kind of like riding on cobblestones, and not particularly slippery. Another advantage is that by this late in the season, the cagers are used to the snow and driving better than usual. I had a real nice ride, averaged 10-12 mph. :)

Normally utility riding and night commuting is the only riding I do and I'm sick of dealing with snow. Had to take a walk today and now feel like I missed out on winter. Rode all winter but taking a nice leisurely walk in the wind and snow was very refreshing.

It snowed last night, so I rode to work in powder. It even made that FWWWWF noise I like so much.

You just jinxed the rest of us riders in Halifax! Now the city is going to blow the rest of their budget in order to coat the roads with salt. :)

Our municipal ding-dongs are already more than halfway through '08s budget for road seasoning. It's supposed to last 'til December... I sure hope we get a late snow in the next winter at the other end of the calender.

We had that crunchy FWWWWF sound this morning too, with nice new snow glittering in the morning sun.

But it's late March. WHY?:mad::mad::mad:

It's been spring for 25 days now according to the calendar, and well over a month meteorologically here.

Yeah, I know you use some day in March as the start of spring, but we don't.

Spring: March, April, May
Summer: June, July, August
Fall: September, October, November
Winter: December, January, February

Leaving the Winter Cycling Forum up as it has been for YEARS allows people to peruse and prepare for the upcoming Winter Season. Deal with it.

Yes, it was nice. Didn't you like the weathernetwork's forecast though? 0% chance of precipitation,
currently clear. Go outside 5 minutes later,... WTH?
