Hard to argue with "Radar Love", that's like the archetypal road song.

But for me -- and this is odd 'cuz I've never been a big Doors fan -- it's gotta be "Roadhouse Blues". I think because the first time I heard it in its intended context was when I was trying to drive solo from Brooklyn NY to Ft. Lauderdale FL in less than 16 hours so I could meet someone who worked on a cruise ship and would only be on land for two hours that day. So somewhere in the middle of Georgia at 3:00AM, totally ganked out on coffee, chocolate, and Jolt cola, I'm flipping channels on the radio and suddenly Jim Morrison comes screaming at me

"KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD AND YOUR HANDS UPON THE WHEE-UL!"

...and suddenly it all made sense. (The tune, not the road trip.)

although the Stone Temple Pilots 'interstate love song' has it's appropriate merits.

Maybe not my number one, but definitely top 10 or so.

Can't limit myself to just one, as it depends on mood and time of day, sorta...

Legs - ZZ Top
Desert Plains - Judas Priest
Get Back - The Beatles
Hang 'em High - Booker T & The MGs
A Train of Angels - Joe Satriani

I could probably give you a dozen more, but hey... :D

+one. Awesome song.

"200 Miles" by Cowboy Junkies. Just don't listen to it at 1 am or you'll fall asleep.

"Mrs. Potter's Lullaby" by Counting Crows. It just sounds like cruising across the wide open plains at 85 mph.

+1 Exactly what I thought of before I even opened the thread.

"Hollywood Nights" by Bob Seger would work pretty well with it's driving beat. And +1 to "Roadhouse Blues" - "Well, I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer . . . ." That line always gets me going, and I don't even drink much. And "Highway Star" by Deep Purple merits consideration, especially the live version on "Made in Japan." The Beatles "Helter Skelter" is good for gettin' you down the road, too.

I especially like long songs - it makes the trip seem shorter. So "Hey Jude" gets automatic consideration. I bet "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida" (the full 17 minute album version) would work well, too, although I have never had that on anything but vinyl so I haven't tried it out. If you are in a more contemplative state of mind, "Terrapin Station" by the Grateful Dead would do well. As long as I am not having to work to stay awake and it's wide-open, freeway in the middle of nowhere kind of driving, "Tubular Bells" would be cool - again, the full album-side version.

When I was driving to Cali. it was Beverly Hills by Weezer. Other than that it'd be a lot of punk.
