How far do you ride each week not counting recreation rides?

I stage round trips [approximately 25 miles] from work to home. My goal is 3 a week or 75 miles. It also happens to be the majority of my riding.

My daily commute is about 13km round trip so I ride a little over 40 miles commuting a week. I answered 30-50 but was tempted to say 40-60 because I fit in both.....

20 miles each way - 40 round trip. 5 days a week. Pretty solidly in the 160 or over category.

12 miles each way - 120 per week.

I keep thinking I want to try another route that might not have as many rolling hills, for days when I'm tired.

11 to 12 miles each way depending on route, 5 days a week. Still looking for different routes that will take me longer to ride.

20-24 miles round trip (depends on route) 3-4 times a week (except winter...I'm a wimp)

I had a 200 mile a week commute once. And got to sit down during the day. Now I stand up and move all day and am happy the commute is under 7 miles each way. But if I feel good going home I have several thousand feet of paved climbing within a couple of miles of my back door.

32 miles round trip five days a week makes for a 160 mile week if I am stuck just commuting. Extending my commutes or doing a training/recreational ride on the weekend will often push my weekly total close to 250

12km round trip, every day, rain or shine or snow or sleet or what have you.

25 mile round trip makes for 125 miles a week if I don't make any detours which I like to do.

24 miles round trip and barring some pressing event I am on the MUP 5 days a week so I'm at an even 120 for the week.

My commute is 15 miles each way, but I only ride both ways two or three times a week. Occasionally I don't ride at all, but normally I do at least one way by bike. Some weeks are 60 mile weeks, others are 150 but more often than not I ride 100-120 miles a week.

I'm averaging about 100 miles a week.

Does it count if I take the long way home?

7 miles each way, so about 70 a week if it's not not raining (like today). Now that I'm all Californicated I don't ride in the rain anymore.

This semester, 2 trips a week in to campus x 8 miles RT = 16.

Next fall will be 5 trips a week x 8 miles = 40.

Ride directly to/from work is about 8 RT now, but I am in college one night a week and visit my daughter 3-4 times a week each evening, so I rarely ever go straight home anymore. College adds another 7 (about 2 there, 5 back to home) and going to visit my daughter is a 8 mile trip there, and I guess about 10/11 home. I've only started getting back into commuting more this past couple weeks, so I've not yet got conditioned for super-duper riding (used to do the 16/18 RT 4-5/5 at one point). I'm going for 30-50 to be fair.

Hard telling.

Shortest possible route is 6 miles per day to and from the closest bus stop to my apartment. I rarely do that, though.

I almost always go 3 miles in the morning to the bus stop.

At night, I usually take a different bus to the place my wife works, then I get some grub for the both of us and eat dinner with her at work. From there, I may go straight home (6 miles), or to the coffee shop on the way (adds about 3 miles to my trip home), or to the bike shop (adds one mile to the trip home from my wife's office) or any number of other errands I need to run while I'm out.

I average 4 bike commute days per week, and average about 10 miles per day from commuting, so I chose 30-50 because there's often a bit of flux in there.

only about 25 miles roundtrip per week. 40 miles round trip is just crazy. :)

my short commute gives me flexibility to go home from time to time for lunch or miscellaneous stuff. but that doesn't exactly count towards commuting mileage...does it?

ItsJustMe

10.8 miles one way, 5 times a week, every week of the year.
Hardly ever ride apart from commuting, except to go to meetings at church and sunday morning if I'm not walking, but church is < 1 mile away.
Once in a while I go to town for something, but mostly when I'm not going to work or coming home, I just stay home.

I only ride about 3 miles to work (6 miles round trip) so there's not much there to brag about; however on most evenings I detour home and will ride anywhere from 10 to 25 miles home...but I didn't count that in the poll just the actual commute distance. Because where I live and the fact we do get snow and rain I don't commute by bike everyday like I use to when I lived in California.

10.7 miles each way, an adjustment from the 3.2 miles each way for almost 6 years, but getting better! extra miles already being added (grocery store).
new shuttle service (pro-non car) involvement/personal commitment has dwindled my yearly milage log, but i still feel i'm working on anvannte-gaurde concepts. the past week (after vaca) back to the peddles have felt good, not too long anymore! sometimes i flash-back to post tour moments, each ride, and smile with renewed energies! working on how to "California Shower" this summer at site...!

32 miles round trip x 5 days a week, so exactly 160 a week ;)

Here's the map I drew up! :)

Great poll idea by the way, this is an interesting question.

35 miles a week if all I do is go to work and come home. Since I do not own a car, it is generally more than this, though I have no idea how much more.

my minimum is 100/week but most weeks I add an extra day of commuting to meetings and transportation, which usually makes it about 120 not counting rides for recreational purposes.

43 miles RT, 1-2X a week. Just getting ready to ramp up to the 2X starting next week with the better weather....

I have been commuting 4x a week, 7.6 mi each way. Working up to commuting 5x a week which would be about 75 miles. Haven't really had the energy to do weekend rec rides. But I will soon.

03-24-07, 02:25 PM
well I don't own a motor so even on my rec rides I commute stop at the store, library, etc.
I pull down 125 miles for work, 30 for college, the rest is a blur.

7 miles roundtrip for 5 days makes 35 miles a week strictly for commuting... that's if I don't extend the ride home which I haven't done as much lately but will probably start doing again soon

I put down 20-40 but I actually do 42 commuting. It was 80 a week but I changed shifts and moved a mile closer. I have a 3 mile commute but would prefer 10 as this would give me a lot more exercise without having to go to the gym.

oneredstar
03-25-07, 04:58 AM
Looks to be about 60 miles a week currently. Once the weather warms up though I will probably add about 40 miles to that, more shopping trips that are further away.

My short route, and the one I normally take, is 15 miles round trip to from the house to work and back. I have other, longer routes and sometimes take them, at least one way. A normal week also sees one day that, for one reason or another, I don't ride. But sometimes I ride seven days a week if it's my turn to pull a weekend.

I chose 40-60 for a typical week, but 60-80 would have been accurate, too. My mileage has dropped off from what it used to be. For a while, it was not unusual for me to ride about 100 miles a week.

69 to 92 miles per week (23 miles roundtrip x 3 to 4 per week)
Hopefully will increase to 5 times per week ... I just need to increase my organization skills (and, of course, my nunchuck skills).

caloso
03-25-07, 02:21 PM
If all I did was to ride directly from home to office and back, I'd have 45 for the week. Of course, I try to grab as many detours as possible and if the stars align, I can have logged more than 100 by the weekend.

But to be conservative, I voted 40-60.

12 miles each way, which ends up being 72-120 miles since I stopped riding in the rain....was too much maintenance even with full fenders

JohnBrooking
03-25-07, 08:03 PM
My commute alone is 11 miles round trip, x 5 days a week would be 55 miles. However, usually at least once a week I need to go elsewhere after work, which takes the daily total up to 18-23. Although that's not my "commute" (defined as strictly home to work and back), it is transportational, not recreational, so I'm counting it, and therefore voted 60-80.

19 each way. 3 days a week.

03-26-07, 12:11 AM
19 miles each way = 38/day round trip, 3 days/week = 114 miles/week. I wish it were more like 10 miles each way, in which case I'd probably ride 5 days/week.

Big surprise that some people are doing 160 mi/week or more!

Yeah, you should always be increasing your nunchuck skills.

I voted 60-80...I ride about 80 if if I do the most direct route all week. But on days I have the time, I take longer routes and sometimes put it up to 120+ miles per week commuting.

Impressive numbers put up by some folks!

~5 miles each way, 5 days/week. Add the 2x/week chiropractor visit and I'm just over 50/week.

36 miles round trip x 5 days a week. So, 180 miles.
