Southeast - Officer Down Memorial Challenge - riders?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all,
I'm in the process of returning to the cycling community/sport/whatever, been on chemo for the last 2 years and I'm really really enjoying the bike.
Anywho, In an attempt to increase my mileage, I found the bikeacrossflorida.net (http://www.bikeacrossflorida.net) ODMC ride(35). It's only 35 miles, but hey that's a long way for me, at least right now. Any riders on this forum participating? I'm riding primarily in memory of Micheal Callin, Orange county sheriff deputy killed last August by some SOB immigrant driving on a suspended license.
I'm not riding it, but welcome back. Two years is a lot of chemo.
Hi dallasweb and welcome. I hope you're finished with the chemo and everything is ok.
The ODMC looks like a great ride to get you back into cycling.
Chuluota, FL. Now there's a place I haven't been in a while.
I moved from Orlando to Atlanta in 1992. When I was in Orlando I was field service engineer. Our office was in Altamonte Springs and whenever I had to go to Cocoa, Melbourne, etc. I'd take 436 to 419 and drive through what was the sleepy little town of Chuluota. Looked like a nice place to live. I guess now it's overrun with people. :(
Where do you ride? Is there a club or group that rides out that way?

Used to be more cows than people, now more people than cows. Used to be more orange trees than houses, yep...more houses than trees :( Still a nice ride.

I usually on my road bike heading east to Fort Christmas...and beyond, sometimes I make it home :p I'm planning on catching up with the Florida Freewheelers (http://www.floridafreewheelers.com/) this Sat for a 33 miler/picnic @ Lake Mills park, the ride goes to Geneva and back.
When I want to get muddy(more like sandy) I hop on Snow Hill rd trails which start about 1 mile from my door step. I also, like to ride at Santos trails (http://www.omba.org/) near Ocala, but a bit more of a hike to get there.
You ever MTB? My sister has a place on Lake Burton, near Clayton, Ga. If so, any nice trails near there?
