"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - When to use an Enervit Cheer Pack (aka Crack Pack)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anybody here use them? Have heard enough things about the, that I got curious, and picked up a box of 5.
Thing is, I don't see any point wasting them on my 1 hour+6 lpas races. I'll be doing a 4.5 hour group ride with 5 other guys on Sunday (and I have the feeling i'll be doing more than my fair share of work). Perhaps that's the place to try it for the first time?

i've heard the description "liquid crack" used to describe that stuff in the past.
Please let us know what you think about it.

I fill my HAMMER gel flask with the Cheer Pack and the rest with HAMMER raspberry gel. I drink one half right before the start and the other about 2 laps from the end. The buzz is sublime.

I read somewhere that it's a "quick-energy" product and the buzz only lasts for 20 minutes or so. Sounds like a fun 20 minutes, but it might be better suited for short races rather than longer group rides.

Always use a new supplament on a training ride first. Then you can observe its effects without costing you a race should your body not like it.

as far as the nutritional facts go there is nothing special about it, sugar water and a b vitaimin but the reviews sound interesting. Please update Botto

I don't see why the cheerpack should be that great, its just a gel greater than avg amount of carb in it and some b vitamins. I've ridden with emergen C in bottles before and I notice zero diff from additional b vitamins. caffiene or electrolytes is different story however.

feeling a little stingy with my stash of 5 packets (enervit doesn't have a NL distributor).

Doubt it is much better / different than a Redbull.

the entire flask, so like the equivalent of 3ish gel packs?

probably tastes better, and the added bonus is that there's no need to drop X to enjoy it.
I tried the Enervitene Cheer Pack, and I have to say it kinda made me feel like crap. After the ride I read the HEED label (the other stuff I drank on the ride) and it said not to use it in combo with other products that have simple carbs (like Enervitene) because you could have "untoward side effects." Maybe that was what I felt.

I've used this now in six consecutive races with no bad effects. I find that it give me a lift..a boost so to speak with out the jittery feeling or elevated HR that I've got from energy drinks. I also have not experienced th major crash that I've had with energy drinks or Coca Cola. But like all things bike related you may have a different result, I'm just saying it works great for me.

I use HEED and Recoverite as well as the HAMMER gel with the Cheer Packs with no ill affects. Again YMMV

I used HEED products along with an oatmeal creme pie - baaad news. Worst I've ever felt.
Interested in hearing more about the Enervitene. The LBS has it, but I've not tried it. EDR has me intrigued. Let us know how it works for you botto.

Use it on the group ride.
Nothing like some caffeinated goodness. I always ride better when I'm not simply wired on coffee/red bull but strung out like Rick James.
Some people don't like the feeling, but it's always worked well for me.

yeah, I've always wondered about that label. From a MD's perspective what the bleep is that all about? made me wonder about using it.

Slightly off topic, but you guys should try an on bike drink call eload http://www.eload.net/eMedia.htm
It's really good stuff and works better than anything I've tried before. My shop is carrying it again so I'll be back to using it instead of the HEED.

Yup, it is a Canadian product. A lot of the tri guys use it up here, and they used to sponsor Iron Man Canada. A Great product. Tastes like absolute $hit unless it's really hot and you've been sweating; then it's ambrosia.
Love the stuff, and when it gets really hot I wouldn't use anything else.

The stuff has been a life saver for me here in Austin, the summers are just brutal here. I don't mind the taste of the Lemon flavor but the fruit punch is just awful.

go to your local gym and check out the stuff they have there. Redline, lipodrene, etc... If its borderline illegal speed-type products you are looking for, its a good place to start.

So botto, I have to assume you've had time to try the Envervit by now. What do you think? I just picked one up to try.
I have to say, I don't see anything magical in the ingredients list: fructose syrup, glucose syrup, water, orange flavour, lemon oil. No caffeine or other "buzzy" stuff as in Red Bull.

I wonder if Glutose (http://www.paddocklabs.com/glutose.html) would have the same effect. It's 40% dextrose gel (marketed for medical purposes with diabetics). It's pretty awful, too.

Which ones did you get? There are two types. One is orange flavored and has 120 cals and 30g of carbs. Another is cola flavored and has 240 cals and 60g of carbs. Same amount of liquid. Check the back of the package.
My guess is that yours are the orange ones. I pointed out the differences to our folks at the shop and no one had looked at the nutritional statement on the package.
The second one is like an afterburner, but due to the high carb content made me feel bloated.
BTW...here's some usage information. (http://www.enervitusa.com/systems.html)

Even more slightly off topic. I bought some No-Xplode and tried it during training. I got all jacked up and had a kick-arse time. I'm going to try it again soon to see if it's the product or my mind telling me it was working. More later. Sorry for the hijack.
And I'll get me some crack pack soon to try that as well.

You're probably better off with actual crack. Don't get a CF pipe, though--it might melt. :D

I saw that too...but we've got a few boxes of them in the store so I don't know if they aren't making that anymore or not. We carried Evervit last year and it just did not sell well at all. We spent too much time explaining the "System" to make it worth it. But I've got a couple of the mega dose packs laying around somewhere. It was double the cals and carbs of the orange pack. One guy I know lived on the megas in a 24 hour race.
Maybe they pulled the product. I'll have to check.
BTW...I am using First Endurance products a lot, and I have to say they are outstanding. The peanut butter/chocolate chip bars are great.
